Tiger Woods will make his return to the video game sphere after signing a deal for his name and likeness to appear on 2K’s golfing titles.

The deal was announced by 2K on Monday, alongside an announcement that it would be acquiring HB Studios, the company that develops the PGA Tour games 2K publishes.

The company wouldn’t reveal how much Mr Woods, 45, would be paid but described it as a “long term” deal, that will also see him serve as executive director of the PGA Tour 2K games.

It’s yet to emerge how much it will pay for HB Studios either, but the deal is expected to close before the end of this month.

It means that one of the most successful and celebrated golfers of all-time will be exclusively found in 2K’s games.

The deal was announced less than a month after Mr Woods was involved in a car crash in Santa Monica where he sustained serious leg injuries.

In a statement from 2K announcing the deal, Mr Woods is quoted (from a January interview) saying, “I’m honoured to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together”.

The last time Tiger Woods name was used to sell golfing video games was in 2013, capping off a 15-year run endorsing the PGA Tour games that were made by EA Sports.

His new partnership with 2K means his name and likeness will only appear in PGA Tour 2K games and “any other golf games published by 2K during the partnership term”.

2K will also partner with Mr Woods’ TGR Foundation, a charity that provides education and training in STEM fields for students at under-served schools and help them get to and through college.
