Xbox reveals enticing console update in announcing new games

Xbox has fans waiting with bated breath for the launch date of a new game that was just announced to a roaring crowd in Los Angeles.

Xbox just held their annual Xbox Games Showcase event in Los Angeles, where they announced the new game titles that they will be releasing over the next year, and I’ve been on the ground getting among the hype.

The showcase provided a diverse line-up of games, ranging from highly anticipated titles to unique and intriguing experiences, all while highlighting the value of Xbox Game Pass with many games available from day one to those with a subscription.

Additionally, Xbox announced that a new Xbox Series S console will now be available in black and feature 1TB of storage.

To the delight of the attendees, the show started with an appearance of Phil Spencer the CEO of Microsoft Gaming or, essentially, Xbox. Next, we were thrown into the trailer of the new Fable game, which got a massive cheer from the audience.

The trailer featured comedian Richard Ayoade who is originally famous from starring in the TV show The IT Crowd, and so the trailer was filled with laughs. The game looks whimsical and fun, and although we didn’t get a launch date for this one, it was certainly a good start to the showcase.

From here on out we were bombarded with a plethora of exciting game titles, such as South of Midnight, a third person action and adventure game, fronted by Hazel, a woman with mystical powers.

The next event highlight was absolutely the announcement of a new star wars game, which brought many cheers from the crowd. The game is called ‘Star Wars Outlaws’, coming in 2024 and featuring a tough and confident female protagonist.

We saw Payday 3, Persona 3 Reload, Avowed, and shock and awe from the audience when a trailer for the new game, ‘Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island’, appeared. It certainly looks like it will be incredibly fun for all ages and will be one of the first new games to release, hitting shores on July 20.

Next, we were surprised with a new iteration of Microsoft’s famous Flight Simulator – named Flight Simulator 2024. Previously, the sim was all about the enjoyment of flight and soaring over picturesque locations, but now Microsoft has given players true purpose.

Across a multitude of different aircraft you can now take on tasks such as aerial firefighting in small planes, or search and rescue missions or cargo transportation while piloting a helicopter. You can even take on industrial cargo transport in hefty planes or command a hot-air balloon. I think that even people who aren’t usually a fan of simulator games could find a lot of enjoyment from this title, and I think it looks seriously awesome.

All of the games looked excellent but some honourable mentions also go to the colourful, cartoonish RPG called ‘Dungeons of Hinterberg’, the simulation game ‘Cities: Skylines II’ and ‘Jusant’.

But there were also major title announcements such as expansions for Cyberpunk and Overwatch, the new Forza Motorsport, Fallout 76, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and Starfield.

Starfield was absolutely the standout of the entire event, and the hype was certainly built up as it had its own hour of demos and behind the scenes content from Bethesda, the game’s developer. It’s an open-world space game which can be played in first or third person.

The game has you exploring what seems like an almost infinite amount of space, travelling around either in your space ship or on foot. Your ship acts as your home base so you can customise it extensively and even collect companions or crew mates on your journey, and possibly delve into romantic connections as you explore the galaxy.

Overall the game featured stunning graphics, with incredible lighting and landscapes and the gameplay mechanics look incredibly enjoyable and offer a vast array of possibilities, suiting all kinds of different play styles. For example, if you prefer to navigate worlds while being stealthy you can up your skill set in taking enemies out quietly.

Alternatively you can talk your way out of sticky situations or melee enemies so hard you send them flying into the sky. The game promises a ridiculously immersive experience, with the ability to customise your character’s own personality traits and storyline.

I feel this could be a huge hit, and for me it’s going to be a must-try for all gamers, especially those who enjoy sandbox games. I really hope it lives up to the hype.
