There’s no questioning the commitment and desire of south east Queensland’s wheelchair basketball stars.
The Darling Downs Challenge headed to Clive Berghofer Arena in Toowoomba over the weekend with five teams taking part in this years action.
All players eager to show off their skills on the court and to chase their dream of one day lining up for their country.
Some players couldn’t get enough of the action, even suiting up for multiple teams.
“It was a really great tournament,” SW Toowoomba coach and player Lachlan Steinohrt said.
“We would’ve loved to see a few more teams but the numbers were still pretty solid and it was good to see so many players in action.”
Steinohrt was one of several players who lined up in different teams with the Garden City player featuring for Toowoomba, Sunshine and Brisbane’s A and B grade teams.
He said while many players involved in the tournaments harbour the desire to play for their country, the games are always played in the right spirit.
“Naturally everyone wants to win,” he said.
“And there is a mix of players new to the game and those who want to go to the next level as well.
“But while every game is very competitive they are all still played in the right spirit.”
Steinohrt also encouraged potential athletes to give wheelchair basketball a chance.
Training runs from 11am to 1pm most Saturdays at Clive Berghofer Arena (St Mary’s College, Toowoomba).
