We reveal the players who have starred in the 2024 AFLQ Darling Downs season

With the first seven weeks of the competition in the books, we take a look at the players who have shone for each AFLQ Darling Downs club this season. See who has led the way for your club here.

With the 2024 AFLQ Darling Downs season well and truly underway, we have run the rule across the entire competition to reveal the star players leading the way for each club.

See who the key players from your club have been below.

Coolaroo men

Jacob Sheath: Sheath has been in fine form for the undefeated Coolaroo side this season and has booted a solid 12 goals in four games and has also made Coolaroo’s best players on two occasions.

Tim Lewis: The powerful ruckman has risen to the occasion on every game and has been one of the most consistent contributors for Coolaroo. While he hasn’t kicked a goal yet, Lewis has been named in the best players for Coolaroo in all four games he has played this season.

Toowoomba men

Rohan Drummond: The superstar forward has returned with a bang in 2024 and wasted no time making a statement. After making his return in round 5, Drummond hit the ground running as he kicked a bag of five against South Toowoomba Bombers. With nine goals in just two games, Drummond is the leading goalkicker for the Tigers and is fifth in the league.

Josh Challis: Challis’ experience and football IQ has been on full show this season as he has been a central figure for Toowoomba around the contest. In six games, he has featured in the Tigers’ best players on four occasions and booted five majors.

Goondiwindi men

Daniel Brown: Brown has played just four games but has wasted no time in making his presence felt. With 19 goals, he leads the men’s goalkicking tally and his prowess was on full display in round 3 when he slotted home a stunning nine goals against the Redbacks.

Sebastian Alvarez de Toledo: One of the most talented players in the competition, Alvarez de Toledo has been one of the most consistent performers this season. He has been named in the Hawks’ best players in all five of his games and also chipped in with three goals in round 7 against the Saints.

South Burnett men

Fletcher Brown: Brown brings a high level of experience and has continued his stellar form from 2023, where he was one of the most consistent players in the league. He has been named in South Burnett’s best in every game this season but was a class above in rounds five and six against Warwick and Coolaroo. Brown booted six goals against the Redbacks in round 5 and then backed it up with another three goals against Coolaroo the following week.

Jack Mines: Mines has been another key player who has helped the change in fortunes for the Saints his season. He has always been one hand to make solid contributions and has kicked seven goals for the season.

South Toowoomba men

Josh Liddington and Ryan Hodgson: The Bombers’ forward line has been firing on all cylinders with Liddington and Hodgson combining for 20 goals this season. The duo are excellent at winning the contested balls and remain a strong presence in front of goal.

University men

Jaiden Fidge: Fidge has hit the ground running in 2024 with six goals in as many games. He has featured in the Cougars’ best on four occasions, with his best performance coming in round 2 against the Redbacks where he kicked four goals.

James Potter: A dynamic talent, Potter has made his mark for University with eight goals in five games. Like Fidge, his best performance came in round 2, where he kicked five goals.

Warwick men

Tyhe Clarkson: While it has been a difficult season for the Redbacks, Clarkson has stood tall and been a perennial contributor. He has been named in Warwick’s best in all five games this season and has chipped in with a goal in the last four contests.

Zac Wall: Another player who has put in countless tireless performances, Wall has also been in Warwick’s best every game this year. He is a powerful presence which is felt in the aerial contests.

South Toowoomba women

Morgan Prior: Prior leads the way for the Bombers with 12 goals in four games with her best performance coming in round 4 where she kicked six majors.

Coda Stanmore: Stanmore continues to go from strength to strength at senior level and has been a player who you can count on with four best player nominations in six games.

Goondiwindi women

Christine Ash: Despite playing just four games, Ash has already mad her impact on the competition and is the Hawks’ leading goalkicker with seven goals.

Shaye Easton: An elite experienced campaigner, Easton continues to thrive at Goondiwindi and has been named in her side’s best players in four of her five games.

South Burnett women

Nicole Gunston: Gunston has been one of the most reliable players for South Burnett and has been one of the best players for the Saints in every game this season. While her impact around the contest is sublime, she has also chipped in with two goals.

Daisha Elais: Elais is one of the leading goalkickers for the Saints this season with five goals in as many games.

Toowoomba women

Lara Paget: One of the elite talents in the competition, Paget has continued her stellar form in front of goal. After just five games, she has kicked a stunning 32 goals which included a 10-goal haul in round 2 against South Burnett.

Nelly Bruce: Bruce is one of the rising stars in the Darling Downs and has already put together a stunning 2024 season. She led Downlands to a breakthrough under-17 premiership as captain and league best and fairest and has now excelled in her first season of senior football. Despite her inexperience at senior level, she wasted no time making her mark as she kicked 10 goals in just her second game and has booted 20 majors in five matches.

University women

Kati Wright: Wright is another young gun who has hit her straps in 2024. In the under 17 competition, she kicked five goals in as many gamed and has continued to shine in the senior season. Wright has booted nine goals in six games and featured in the Cougars’ best on three occasions, with her best performance back in round 2 against Coolaroo, where she kicked nine goals.

Annabel Myatt: Myatt has led by example for University, being named in their best players in all six games. Along with always making her presence felt, she has also been one of the leading goalkickers for the Cougars with eight goals.

Coolaroo women

Ada McKenzie: Coming from a netball background, McKenzie’s athleticism and versatility has been vital for Coolaroo this season as they look to build for the future. McKenzie has shone as captain and led by example almost every game and has been named in the Roos’ best players on five occasions.

Jessica Stevenson: Stevenson is another player who has led the way for Coolaroo and has been a key player in and around the contest. In seven games, she has featured in the Roos’ best four times and kicked her first goal of the season in a hard-fought clash against University on Saturday.
