It was another highly anticipated round of Toowoomba Rugby League on the weekend, with some blockbuster clashes and season-defining encounters taking place.

Woodbridge guides Dalby to much-needed win

After a minor form slump by Dalby’s lofty standards, the clash against fellow contenders Wattles was of paramount importance.

With the stakes so high, it was no surprise that Chris Woodbridge was at the forefront of the action.

The scintillating fullback was at his best on Saturday as he scored four tries and made four conversions in the Diehards’ 29-22 win over Wattles.

Valleys halt Danes’ finals push

One of the big stories of the TRL this season has been the rise of Pittsworth, with the Danes showing their might against the contending teams in the opening rounds of the season.

However, their impressive run was dealt a major blow on Sunday as they suffered a comprehensive 34-14 defeat to Valleys in a clash which was an effective four-pointer with both sides on the cusp of finals.

The Roosters’ victory has given them some breathing space in the top five as they ae now three points clear of the sixth-placed Danes and ahead of Wattles and Dalby on points differential.

Highfields women make a statement

After dominating the first three seasons of the TRL women’s competition, the Gatton Hawks dynasty is facing its toughest challenge yet in 2024 and this weekend was evidence of that.

In the match of the round, a rejuvenated Highfields side continued its unbeaten start to the season as it defeated the Hawks 14-6.

Outscoring the defending premiers three tries to one, the Eagles – led by a Lucy Davis double – sent a statement to the rest of the competition with a complete performance.

Hazard comes up clutch for Boars

The Boars kept their slim finals hopes alive on Sunday thanks to a clutch penalty goal late in the game from Michael Hazard.

In a back and forth contest, scored were tied at 24-all before Hazard scored a late penalty goal to get Goondiwindi over the line.

The Boars remain in eighth spot on the ladder and are five points behind Dalby in fifth with eight games left in the season.
