We name our women’s Toowoomba Rugby League Team of the Decade - so far

We have officially reached the halfway point of the decade and we are taking a look back at the stars of women’s rugby league in the TRL this decade to name our team of the 2020s - so far. See which stars made the team and the players who narrowly missed out.

As we hit the halfway point in the decade, The Chronicle Sports team is shining a light on the women’s league stars who have made their mark in the 2020s as we name our team of the decade so far.

Since the Toowoomba Rugby League women’s competition kicked off in 2021, there have been some elite talents line up and develop in the competition and we have narrowed down the ultimate starting 13 from the last four seasons.

Throughout the opening seasons of the TRL women’s competition, Gatton and Newtown have been the benchmark of the competition and as a result have several players featured in our dream team.

However, with BMD and NRLW products in the side, see who made the dream team below.

1. Nat Webb

One of the great success stories of the Toowoomba Rugby League women’s competition.

Webb is a Hancock Edwards Medal winner, a BMD and Harvey Norman Premiership star and has also represented the Philippines at international level.

In her 2023 season where she was the league’s player of the year, she scored a competition high 25 tries.

2. Courtney Robinson

Robinson has been one of the most exciting players in the TRL and BMD Premiership over the last few years.

Whenever Robinson touches the ball, big things happen.

She possesses incredible footwork and can break through any opposing defence.

3. Sarah Hoger

Hoger has thrived as an outside back with the Hawks and became a weapon with the Clydesdales in the BMD Premiership last year.

She was best on ground in the 2023 TRL grand final, scoring one try and making four conversions.

4. Antonia Vito

Vito earns a spot on this team after her exceptional 2023 campaign with the Oakey Bears where she scored 20 tries.

Vito was instrumental for the Bears that campaign as they ended the home and away season in second place with 10 wins from 12 games before eventually bowing out in the preliminary final.

5. Paige Edwards

Edwards was one of the standout backs during the 2022 and 2023 seasons her efforts were rewarded when she became the Western Clydesdales’ first signing after its admission into the BMD Premiership was announced.

Edwards crossed over for 32 tries between 2022 and 2023 and was a key player in their runs to the grand finals in those years.

6. Jess Fitzgibbons

One of the star attacking players of the TRL in recent seasons, Fitzgibbons can create opportunities for herself and her teammates.

In 2023, she scored a team-high 15 tries for Highfields.

Fitzgibbons backed that up in 2024 with a stellar season as a playmaker in the halves for the premiership winning Eagles.

7. Rosie Parsons-Gibbs

As a player and coach, Rosie Parsons-Gibbs has paved the way for up and coming female rugby league stars at Newtown.

She possesses an elite kicking game and dictates the tempo of contests.

Along with being a threat both on and off the ball, she has always been rock solid defensively and was crucial for the Lions in their run to consecutive grand finals in 2022 and 2023.

8. Tara Reinke

Reinke’s stellar rise to the NRLW began from humble beginnings with the Gatton Hawks in the TRL in 2021.

The lion-hearted forward quickly rose to the BMD Premiership before making her NRLW debut in 2023.

While she only spent a limited amount of time in the TRL, she has left an ongoing legacy as inspiration for players coming through the local and BMD Premiership ranks.

9. Courtney-Lee Nolan

Courtney-Lee Nolan will forever have her name etched in Toowoomba Rugby League history as she won the inaugural Hancock Edwards Medal.

From the very early days of the competition, Nolan was a standout with Gatton with her hard working attitude and impressive playmaking helping lay down the foundations for the Hawks.

Along with creating opportunities for her teammates, she is also a tryscoring threat herself.

This was most evident in the 2022 season where she was the leading tryscorer with 25 tries.

10. Katelyn Collie

Collie helped create history in 2024 as she captained the Highfields Eagles to premiership glory.

She is an elite forward with Clydesdales experience and created several chances for her teammates throughout the season.

11. Kim Dore

Dore is one of the most damaging forwards in the short history of the competition and has been a pivotal member of the Gatton dynasty which has seen it win three premierships from 2021 to 2023 and make the grand final in 2024.

12. Kiara Taylor

Taylor is a versatile star who has made her mark playing in several positions.

She took home the 2024 TRL Player of the Year award after a superb season with Newtown, where she showed her class across the field.

13. Mackenzie Zeller

One of the most exciting young talents on the Darling Downs, Zeller has captained the Clydesdales at under-19 level and was also a pivotal member of the BMD side in 2024.

Along with starring for the Clydesdales, Zeller has also impressed in the TRL, making her mark in various positions for Highfields and was a
