Essendon coach Brad Scott wants Harley Reid at the club next year, saying the Bombers have plenty to offer the Eagles.
Plus, Hawks star Will Day is aiming for a finals return from a navicular injury.
There was plenty to cover across AFL television last night, here’s the best of what you missed.
Day aims for September return
AFL 360
Hawthorn star midfielder Will Day says his recovery from a stress fracture is tracking well, but he revealed his initial diagnosis was “pretty shocking”.
Day was ruled out for 3-4 months after scans revealed a stress fracture in his navicular, which led to surgery.
It was the second time he had suffered a navicular injury, with the latest setback coming as a surprise to Day.
“I wouldn’t call it pain, we were on the front foot, I was talking to doctors, our high performance staff, and we thought we’d go away and get a check up scan,” he said on AFL 360.
“When the outcome did arise it was pretty shocking for me as well, which probably made that initial 24-48 hours pretty hard.”
It has been three weeks since the surgery, and Day came out of the moon boot on Tuesday.
He said there would be about another week on crutches as he grew accustomed to life outside of the boot again, before slowly building up to a potential late-season return to football.
“I don’t like looking at it (injury list) on the screen, but I’m definitely confident to be back this year,” he said.
“Hopefully we’re at the pointy end of the season, in the later stages and I just want to be primed for that.”
Razor surprised by Curtis ban
AFL 360
Retired umpire Ray Chamberlain said he was surprised Paul Curtis’ three-match ban was upheld, holding the belief the tribunal would “let him go” without suspension.
Curtis’ ban drew criticism from his North Melbourne teammates, with Luke Parker saying AFL was turning into “touch football”.
“It is incredibly difficult (to roll a player in the tackle),” he said on AFL 360.
Luke Parker says North Melbourne's clash against Essendon on Thursday night will be a touch football game. ð

“They’re so fast, they’re so strong, and then you can’t always control the movement of the opponent once you’ve made contact as well.
“I thought, based on other ones, that potentially there was a chance that they would let him go, and I’m referencing (Toby) Bedford.
Toby Bedford has received a three-match ban for this incident involving Tim Taranto.

“But I also understand concussion is such a significant issue, the outcome was what it was, so that’s a point of difference, so they landed where they have.”
‘Significant capital’ ready for Reid raid
AGENDA SETTERS
Essendon coach Brad Scott says he is prepared to part with “significant capital” in the race for Harley Reid, however he conceded he has not met with the young West Coast star.
The former No.1 pick is not out of contract but is being heavily pursued by Victorian clubs in an attempt to lure him home a year early.
Scott said on Agenda Setters that Reid was “one of many” players he would be willing to part with the two first rounders the club owns.
“That won’t be my decision in isolation … I like to think my opinion in list management counts for something,” he said on Channel 7.
“Whether that be to go to the draft with two first and two second-round picks.
“We have significant capital … I haven’t spoken to him.”
Scott said he hoped the list management team at Essendon had been speaking with Reid and his player agent, saying the Bombers would be slipping if they hadn’t met yet.
Essendon has its own first and second round picks in this year’s draft, as well as Melbourne’s first rounder after trading out of the 2024 first round.
Last year’s trade means the Bombers currently own the No.4, No.7, No.24 and No.25 picks, with No.24 being tied to St Kilda after trade last year.
WHAT THEY SAID
On Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s leave of absence
- Gerard Whateley, AFL 360: “Now they have to get on with the business of contending this season. You can’t have this being a constant... you can’t waste anymore energy on that. Time to zero in on the here and the now, and this will just have to wait for another time.”
