It’s official – Varsity College have booked their ticket to Orlando for the Pro Bowl Games in February 2024.

The side battled it out against nine schools from across Australia at the NFL Flag National Championships at Carrara on Tuesday, earning their spot thanks to grit, teamwork and determination.

See the players who got them over the line, plus top performers on and off the field from every school below.

Burleigh Heads Primary School – Burleigh Heads, QLD

Aliyah Williams

Grade 6

Aliyah boasted great defensive pressure and even better attacking speed.

Lucas Sundstrom

Grade 6

Lucas showed the most improvement in his team, developing quickly and pulling nice plays together throughout the day.

Shannon Mitchell

Grade 6

Shannon boasted some illusive footwork and blistering speed on the field.

Star quarterback and a great leader. He won the quarterback master class and is definitely one to watch.

Kelly is an unreal wide receiver who also topped the leaderboard for the 40m dash (sub 7 seconds). His athletics background came in handy.

A true defensive talent with uncanny flag pulling prowess.

All around star in every sport despite being brand new to the sport. He is a quick learner.

Kane Buchanan

Grade 6

The star quarterback with a year of experience, Kane returned to the comp for his second stint and showed off in style. His local club experience is certainly paying off.

Lincoln Skalij

Grade 6

Lincoln can run for days, is quick and agile and also boasts a year of experience in the sport.

Lilly Cormak

Grade 6

Lilly’s tagging is phenomenal, she simply ‘doesn’t miss a tag’ according to her coaches.

Harley Lyon

Grade 6

He’s got good hands, is reliable and a prolific touchdown scorer.

Howrah Primary School – Howrah, TAS

Noah Smith

Grade 6

Leadership skills as captain, great arm for a quarter bacon and reads the play extremely well

Jake Roocke

Grade 6

Jakes sportsmanship and encouragement of teammates was admired by others. Labelled by his coach the ‘touchdown king’ he scored over 10 throughout the day.

Sophia Sakul

Grade 6

She only picked up the game three months ago but has made incredible improvements since. Sophia is fast, coachable and reliable in any position and showed great sportsmanship on and off the field.

Hugo Westbury

Grade 6

Nicknamed ‘fancy feet,’ Hugo played wide receiver and offered an uncanny ability to read the play well in advance. He was willing to take risks and they often paid off.

Derinya Primary School – Frankston South, VIC

Zac Jenkins

Grade 6

Zac played both side of the ball, offence and defence, when his side faced injury. His ability to read the play coupled with killer tagging often resulted in putting his body on the line.

Chloe Krings

Grade 6

A tall and fast wide receiver who can catch anything that comes her way. Chloe boasts a handy court sport background and picked up the rules of flag in a heartbeat.

Ari Meagher

Grade 6

Ari played quarterback on the day and never let the pressure get to him. A background of cricket, footy and basketball could be to thank for his leadership and accurate throws with distance. You can’t forget his leadership either.

Zarli Webb

Grade 6

Zarli mainly stuck tio playing centre in offence. She brought toughness to the team and loved the friendly contact. Her energy and positivity did not go unnoticed.

Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School – Nicholls, ACT

Luke Jenkins

Grade 6

Luke never gave less than 100% on the day. He showed great tenacity, pulled off some incredible intercepts and was always seen cheers on others.

Eli Casey

Grade 6

A true pocket rocket running back, Eli put on a show of positive energy and was able to read the play quickly to adapt.

Jake McPhillips

Grade 6

Jake is an outstanding quarterback with great pass selection and showed improvement with every game.

Hannah McLaughlin

Grade 6

Boasted several outstanding touchdowns and her catching came come a long way. Even with pressure from the boys, Hannah gave a hot crack while staying well-mannered on and off the field.

Michael Arendt

Grade 6

A quarterback with strong leadership, Michael led from the start both on and off field in behaviour and involvement.

Kyra Prunster

Kyra faced her fears and got stuck right into the game, scoring a magnificent touch down.

William Ryan

Grade 6

A quiet achiever who stayed focused on the game plan. William followed instructions and stepped up with an intercept touchdown in one of his games, running the length of the field.

Nominated as stand out for being a ‘jack of all trades’, playing wide receiver and quarterback throughout the day and showing extreme resilience while playing through injury.

A standout MVP, Koby’s defensive skills and agility were unmatched by his opponents.

Coco Loenker

Grade 6

Coco offered exceptional running capacity and catching ability for the Lindisfarne line-up.

Grade 6

Nate’s throws were his strongest skill on the day, a key skill to boast as the star quarterback.

Beau Hewitt

Grade 6

Beau was all about lifting his team in spirit and energy throughout the comp, with endless motivation and positivity radiating on and off the field.

Maggie Kearns

Grade 6

Maggie scored the most number of touchdowns for Nakara, as running back for the side.

Grade 6

As a wide receiver, Luke impressed with amazing hands and great off-field leadership.

Addison offered sensational catches for his age and performed well as another star wide receiver.

Fletcher Kopf

Grade 6

Fletcher is the quarterback and natural leader on the field.
