Toowoomba’s Steve Spark responds to viral press conference from Darragh Foley

Darragh Foley created social media waves after calling out Toowoomba’s Steve Spark. The local champion has responded in devastating fashion, dismissing claims of a contract on the table.

HIS name was dragged into the media hype last week, and Steve Spark has set the record straight about his rivalry with Darragh Foley.

Currently they are two of Australia’s biggest names in the super lightweight division, and Spark hit back hard, claiming Foley couldn’t keep the Toowoomba boxer’s name out of his mouth.

“He’s been out of the ring for nearly two years, so the fastest way for him to get relevant was to mention my name. He did the right thing to get noticed,” Spark told The Chronicle.

“He hasn’t fought the calibre of fighter that I have. The bloke he’s fighting on Wednesday (Hunter Ioane) is coming off four losses, two by knockout.

“Darragh has got a long way to go before he can earn a shot with me.”

Foley said in his press conference that he had signed a contract with Spark’s name on it for the end of September, which Spark denies his team has been presented with.

“He might have a date (in mind), but there’s no contract,” he said.

“While he’s talking to the cameras, I’m in the gym and hitting the pads.

“We’re working towards big things at the end of the year. If a contract comes through, we’ll happily look at it.

“We’re yet to see anything yet from No Limit.”

Spark took exception to a spare rib comment made, reminding Foley he was the only one willing to step into the ring with Tim Tszyu on short notice.

“The laughing and giggling was disrespectful,” he said.

“I jumped in on six days notice and stepped up two weight classes and did a service to boxing.

“You didn’t see Darragh Foley put his hand up.

“It’s good to make jokes about it, but when it comes to the crunch, I’m the one who gets in the ring and fights.”

Spark (15-2 14KO) had a parting shot for Foley (19-4-1 9KO), saying he would make short work of the Irishman if they were to step foot in the ring.

“He knows this is the only way he’ll get a pay day, but people would be disappointed with how easily I would handle him,” he said.

“I would stop him within four rounds.”
