MOTORSPORT: Cameron Shields experienced the agony and ecstasy of championship racing last weekend.
Vying for the Australian Formula 3 Championship, Shields won the final round of the competition but fell four points short of the title.
"It's a bit of a tough one to take,” the Toowoomba teen said.
"We started on pole which is exactly where we wanted to be, set a new track record and won the round.
"But ultimately you want to win the championship and we weren't able to do that.”
Championship misses aside, Shield said it had been a good year for him and his team.
"I think we had a really good season,” he said.
"We were very competitive always pushing for the title and overcame a lot of challenges.
"I learned a lot and the team developed a lot as well.”
Now Shields is turning his attention to other racing pursuits.
Already accustomed to the demands of racing in multiple categories, Shields is preparing for another challenge.
"I'm in the final of the Australia Driver Search competition,” he said.
"I've been competitive in the V8 and GT category. The cars are very different to the ones I race but realistically all the basic principles of driving apply.
"You just have adapt to the situation at hand.
"My focus is also on making my dreams of racing in the USA a reality.”
