Serena Williams confirms return to tennis at Wimbledon 2022

She’s back! Serena Williams has sent the tennis world into a spin, a simple Instagram post confirming her chase for Margaret Court’s Grand Slam singles record is not over.

Serena Williams has confirmed her return to tennis.

Serena Williams’ pursuit of tennis immortality is far from over, the legendary American putting an end to retirement speculation with one Instagram post.

Williams, 40, took to the social media platform overnight declaring her intention to play at Wimbledon, almost a year after a leg injury forced her to retire from the tournament in tears.

A fresh pair of Nike kicks and her trademark #RenasArmy hashtag has sent the tennis world into a spin.

“SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there. Let’s Go,” were the words accompanying Williams photo.

Williams has been a terror on most surfaces, but she owns seven titles on the grass at the All-England club and will continue her chase for a 24th Grand Slam singles title, which would equal Australian Margaret Court’s long-held record.

Husband Alexis O’Hanian chimed in on Twitter: “Looks like S has a business trip to England.”

And the All-England Club later confirmed she would be granted a wildcard entry to this year’s tournament.

Williams has not played a competitive match since her early Wimbledon exit and her WTA ranking has dipped below 1000.

It will be the 21st time she has appeared at the London slam.
