Aussie tennis ace Ajla Tomljanovic has been sidelined again, confirming she had noncancerous tumours removed in another obstacle on her return from injury.

Tomljanovic, who reached the quarter-finals of both Wimbledon and the US Open in 2022 before her 2023 season was destroyed by injury, announced the news on social media with a post from her hospital bed.

The 30-year-old returned to action late last year and reached the second round of the Australian Open last month before being defeated by Jelena Ostapenko.

Following that, Tomjlanovic was knocked out of the Thailand Open in Hua Hin and then went in for surgery.

The world No. 221 underwent a procedure to have uterine fibroids removed.

“Hello everyone, unfortunately, I won’t be competing for a couple of weeks,” Tomljanovic wrote on Instagram.

“Was very much looking forward to the next hard court events. I had to get some uterine fibroids removed and will be watching from home while healing. Will be back soon.”

The Croatian-born star added a link to US hospital chain Cleveland Clinic with more information about uterine fibroids, adding: “Also attaching a link for all my girlies and men (too) who want to (should) learn more.”

The post has more than 29,000 likes and is nearing 1000 comments since it went live around eight hours ago, at the time of publishing this article.

Some of the comments read like a who’s who of the women’s tennis tour, along with some other famous faces who reached out.

“Speedy recovery my friend,” wrote world No. 6 Ons Jabeur.

“Speedy recovery bub!” replied former US Open champion Sloane Stephens.

“Feel better soon Ajla!” wrote former world No. 1 and four-time grand slam singles champion Kim Clijsters.

Other tennis players, including Caroline Garcia, Sara Errani, Matt Ebden and Heather Watson also reached out to offer their support, along with American comedian Chelsea Handler.

“Feel better soon,” Handler wrote.

Tomjlanovic reached a career-high ranking of No. 32 in 2023 before her run of injuries.

Tomljanovic, who became an Australian citizen back in January 2018, almost famously beat Serena Williams at the 2022 US Open in what proved to be the American great’s final match on the WTA Tour.
