A scoring sensation was back in the limelight as the NSW Waratahs moved a step closer to achieving their ambitious goal of clean sweeping the Super Rugby U16s series for the second year running - despite their coach wanting to see much more from his young guns.

The Waratahs beat the Queensland Reds 38-10, scoring six tries to their rivals two at Forshaw Park in Sydney’s south.

It was the third win on the trot for the under 16s who beat the ACT Brumbies in round one and then the Melbourne Rebels last weekend.

It was a win which has confirmed the young side as the most talented in the country in what was a rematch of last year’s grand final.

And it was a victory which again threw spotlight on Mosman Whales youngster Tom Hartman who scored his fifth try of the series to be the leading scorer after three rounds.

But it was a game which exposed multiple areas where improvement is needed according to Waratahs coach Paul Cividin.

“Always happy with a result but we are still struggling in some of our executions areas,’’ he said.

“We left a lot of opportunities out there. We have been together longer than they have so they will be a lot better next time and we have to be ready for that.

“There were four or five opportunities we didn’t execute. In grand final games you can’t let things like that slip.’’

Cividin had high praise for numerous Tahs players, including Rex Bassingthwaighte who came out firing.

“He was fantastic and I though Issac Fonua was special as well,’’ he said.

“His work rate and the carries … he doesn’t get on the highlight reels often but he is so important to our team.

Tom (Hartman) was also good out on the wing, Onitoni (Large) did a great job as well.

“He is also crucial to what we do.

“And Hayden Lavercombe, one of our props, is another one who stood out. He is so physical.’’

Isaac Fonau was the first player to put points on the board, waiting less than eight minutes to score the first try of the match then converted by ..

Rex Bassingthwaighte produced a blast of speed to help set up the second try of the match scored by Justice Taumoepeau which put the Tahs up 12-0.

Bassingthwaighte came close to scoring just minute later before his efforts were nullified by the ref.

Angus Grover then scored his second try of the series with two conversions form three attempts by Harrison Dene delivering the Tahs a 19-0 halftime lead.

A great try by Heamasi Makasini extended the score to 24-0 soon after the break as the NSW teenagers continued the confirm their favouritism to defend the national crown they took out last year.

Townsville player Myles Rosemond then scored a pride-saving try for the Reds in the 47th minute with Keegan Daly and Dene then extending the Tahs lead to 31-5 with a try and conversion.
