Kurtley Beale granted bail in Parramatta Bail Court

Sporting star Kurtley Beale has fronted court after he spent Friday night in prison for alleged sex charges at a Bondi pub.

Australian rugby star Kurtley Beale has been granted bail after spending Friday night in a Sydney prison as a result sexual assault charges.

Beale, 34, was charged on Friday over an incident at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi in the early hours of December 17, in which it is alleged Beale sexually touched a person without their consent, incited another person to them without consent and engaged in sexual intercourse without consent.

According to reports, the victim is a 28-year-old woman.

Maddi Beale, the wife of the Wallabies and NSW Waratahs player, attended the Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday along with Beale’s sisters.

Beale was arrested on Friday when police stopped a car he was travelling in about 2:30pm in Kingsford, after which he was taken to Waverley Police Station for questioning and subsequently charged.

Beale has been ordered to report to Waverley Police Station on Mondays and Fridays, to surrender his passport and not to go near or contact any prosecution witnesses.

On Friday, a joint statement issued by Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs confirmed Beale had been suspended from all forms of Rugby.

Beale has played 95 tests for Australia, and had recently been named as one of 44 players to join a four-day Wallabies training camp on the Gold Coast ahead of this year’s World Cup.

Outside court on Saturday, Sydney’s Daily Telegraph reported that Paul McGirr, Beale’s barrister, said his client “strenuously” denied the allegations.

The matter will return to court on March 22.
