Sevens star Charlotte Caslick is a step closer to her World Cup dream after being named in a 30-strong Wallaroos squad for Saturday’s Test against Fijiana in Suva.
Caslick is one of eight uncapped players named in a squad that will be reduced to 23 on Thursday by coach Jo Yapp.
Apart from Caslick – who is intent on playing for the Wallaroos at this year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup in England – the other uncapped players in the squad are Katalina Amosa, Ruby Anderson, Ashley Fernandez, Martha Fua, Tia Hinds, Manu’a Moleka and Faliki Pohiva.
“We’ve had a fantastic four days in camp (in Canberra) and have selected a squad that we are looking to grow and develop as a side,” Yapp said.
The Wallaroos will also play Tests next month in the Pacific Four series against New Zealand, the USA and Canada.
“The block of four Test matches coming up is all about growth and connection as we look to build into the World Cup in August with new and existing combinations,” Yapp said.
“Fijiana will provide a challenge for us first in Suva. For those players that have missed selection they will continue to play a huge part in the coming months.”
Centre Georgina Friedrichs has been ruled out of Saturday’s due to a finger injury, ending a run of 29 successive Tests.
Hooker Adiana Talakai will also miss the game for personal reasons.
