Rising talents of the Koori Knockout: 50+ boys, girls and women to watch in Bathurst

The Koori Knockout has helped to unearth future junior reps and NRL/NRLW stars. We take a look at the 50+ juniors and women set to make a big impact in Bathurst this weekend.

The Koori Knockout has served as a first exposure for many talents to make their names and grow onto bigger things.

While the men grab the headlines, the juniors and women kick the long weekend off with a bang on Friday with some thrilling football from morning through to evening.

We take a look at some of the junior boys, girls and senior women who are set to shine in Bathurst.

He is very humble young man, strong in defence with a kicking game that blows your mind, he is also captain of the knockout team Mighty Maliyan U13 as well as for his club Quakers Hill. He is a great young leader and everyone around him just loves playing alongside him. A rising young player with abundant of potential.

This kid doesn’t look like much but he has the heart of a lion and is a very talented young man. One of the most talented young players officials have seen, he shows no fear and will run the ball up just as hard if not harder than a forward. When Quinton and Zachariah combine on the field it’s a very special moment it’s like watching two professional NRL players that have been playing together for years. A co-captain at Quakers Hill.

EZEKIEL WILLIAMS (PECKHAM)

Plays for the Gilgandra Panthers and is co-captain of the side. The side is a memorial team for his and Zachariah’s nans (Joan Willie and Cynthia Peckham, also known as Powell). Both are playing for their grandmothers. Ezekiel has it all to become an NRL player with his speed and hard hitting in defence. Could prove to be one of the most exciting young players at the event.

Kye brings experience in the No. 7 jersey he will lead the team around the park with his organisation and kicking.

John is one of the main men leading the forward pack. He takes plenty of strong hit ups and brings very tough defence.

This team has been together since U5s, sticking solid for RAB throughout the Souths Juniors competitions as they rise through the grades. They include Anthony Williams, Ditchu Winters, Nathan Sherriff, Solomon Haumono, Zavier Reid, Kian Walker, Kareel Phillips, Jeremiah Wymarra, Caleb Nolan and Yileen Winters.

The captain of the side will be one to watch with his tricky little footwork, slippery frame and also his lightning speed and aggression in defence. He’s able to hold up the middle in defence and also run rings in attack along with his twin.

Lucas; determination and strength to do his job in the middle and get everyone up and going and shape held will work wonders on game day. He’s gone from not knowing any of the boys to showing his knowledge and leadership. Makes plenty of metres to help the backs run amok.

His sly little movements and amazing ball return skills will set the boys up. He hits the line at good angles to be able to attack a ball at speed with pressure and do what he does. If an opposition player is to break the line against their defensive line he’s likely to save a try.

Can really stand up and make people take notice this tournament. The Western City Tigers junior scored an incredible 38 tries this season, including a hat-trick to help her team win the U14s grand final.

Recently signed with the Cronulla Sharks for the 2025 Lisa Fiaola season, Alaiela has been immersed in rugby league since the age of five. She is a hard hitter who thrives on contact, using her physicality to dominate her opponents. The daughter of former Rabbitohs fullback Roy Bell and trailblazer Kira Dargin — the first Indigenous woman to debut in the Women’s Football Alliance (Womens NFL) — Alaiela embodies a legacy of excellence and determination in sport. Her ability to create holes in the defence is remarkable. With a keen eye for openings, she can quickly identify weaknesses in her opponents, exploiting them with precision and speed. Once she sees her opportunity, she has a knack for bursting through tackles, her agility allows her to change direction effortlessly, leaving defenders scrambling. Alaiela doesn’t just rely on brute strength; her tactical awareness plays a crucial role in her game. She combines her hard-hitting style with intelligent decision-making, always looking for the best path forward. An emerging talent in rugby league, has just been named in the Penrith Panthers development squad. Playing as a hooker, Freya’s agility and tactical awareness set her apart on the field. She has consistently honed her skills and showcased her leadership abilities. Freya is known for her exceptional game awareness and dynamic playmaking abilities. Her quick decision-making and sharp passing skills allow her to control the tempo of the game, making her a vital link between forwards and backs.

Has emerged as an exciting talent at fullback, showcasing a blend of speed, agility, and instinct that makes her a formidable presence on the field. Known for her explosive pace, Taya has the ability to break through defensive lines and create scoring opportunities for her teammates. Her keen sense of positioning allows her to read the game effectively, ensuring she’s always in the right place to either launch an attack or support her team defensively. Taya’s exceptional ball-handling skills and quick footwork enable her to navigate through traffic, making her a threat in both open play and under pressure. With a fearless attitude and an unwavering commitment to her craft, she not only excels in attack but also plays a crucial role in defence, demonstrating strong tackling ability and game awareness.

Their U15s side will comprise a majority of the RAB girls who played together throughout the U14s season in Souths Juniors. They’ve been together every step of the way since their younger years and include Ameria Simon, Tayami Simon, Yarilla Welsh, Birri Welsh and Amali Gordon who will all proudly represent their local community.

Her agility allows her to dance through defenders, while her strong positional sense ensures she’s always ready to capitalise on loose balls or support her teammates. Recently named in the Newcastle Lisa Fiaola squad.
