Australia’s ASICS team shoe is the life and sole of the party

The most sustainable and fashionable running shoe is being worn by the Australian Olympic team.

What shoes are the Aussie Olympians wearing?

The most sustainable shoe in athletics is on display at ASICS House in Paris.

Worn by the Australian Olympic team, the ASICS Nimbus Marai shoe is the brand’s most sustainable yet.

“You notice it with the bright yellow laces,’’ ASICS Oceania public relations manager Hannah Heather said.

“It’s designed to be returned at the end of its life cycle for recycling, so when we receive it we heat it to remove the upper — it comes completely away from the base and 87 per cent of the upper is recyclable, which we are planning to use for future shoes. We will also be recycling the base.”

The House offers a unique look at the history of ASICS, founded by Kihachiro Ontisuka in 1949.

“With a global network of ASICS athletes, it was natural for us to continue our longstanding legacy with the Games and to show support for the athletes’ wellbeing by providing a space they can rest and recuperate,’’ Heather said.
