The NRL fined the Parramatta Eels $1 million, docked them all 12 competition points and stripped them of the 2016 Auckland Nines title as well as sacking the five club officials as a result of systemic salary cap rorting. The Daily Telegraph’s sports editor at large Phil Rothfield is breaking all the exclusive news from NRL HQ. Two months after a Daily Telegraph special investigation revealed the Eels board had openly sought third party agreements to bolster the pay of star players the NRL will reveal the findings of its own probe into the club’s administration. NRL CEO Todd Greenberg described the cap rorts as “a stain on our game” in this morning’s press conference.
