Broncos star Ezra Mam has been charged with drug driving after a crash in Bardon last month.

Police will allege Mam, 21, was driving a Ford Ranger utility north-east along Simpsons Rd on October 18 when it struck an Uber, travelling in the opposite direction, near the intersection of The Drive.

Mam was subject to a roadside drug test where he allegedly returned a positive result.

He was detained for further testing requiring bloods to be taken at hospital which was conducted independently of the QPS.

It will be alleged the secondary test returned a positive result on Tuesday, November 12.

On November 13, Mam was charged with one count each of drive while relevant drug is present in blood and drive motor vehicle without a driver’s licence.

He was issued with a notice to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 16.

Mam has also been issued with a traffic infringement notice for fail to maintain control of vehicle.

The maximum punishment in Queensland for driving while a drug is present in blood is three months imprisonment and/or a $2258 fine.

The maximum punishment for unlicensed driving is one year imprisonment or a fine of more than $6400.

In addition to any penalty imposed, a court is required to disqualify a person convicted of unlicensed driving from holding or obtaining a licence for a minimum of six months.

The Uber driver, Marcel Van Den Camp, 64, was carrying two passengers when the crash occurred, including a four-year-old girl who suffered a broken hip.

It’s understood Mam was moving house when the crash occurred.

Mam entered a rehabilitation facility shortly after the crash, and was expected to be released this week.

His stint in rehab is reportedly going to cost an estimated $100,000.

New Broncos coach Michael McGuire has previously indicated he was prepared to give Mam a second chance.

“I have heard from him and stayed in contact. He is working on himself,” he said.

“I met Ezra about four years ago and he is a good man, a young man.”
