NRL SuperCoach Buy, Hold, Sell round 10: Magic Round tons create buying frenzy

A bunch of huge scores over Magic Round mean this could be your last chance to jump on a host of SuperCoach stunners before they skyrocket in price.

A bunch of huge scores over Magic Round mean this could be your last chance to jump on a host of SuperCoach players before they skyrocket in price.

BUYS (CTW SCRAMBLE)

With the likes of Jaxon Purdue peaking at a massive $650,000, plenty of SuperCoaches will be going large at CTW this week. Purdue out for a genuine keeper is a straight swap in many cases this week.

* Jacob Kiraz - Enormous showing against the Titans with 137 including three tries, and also has a great bye schedule. The biggest risk is that he’s played his way into Origin contention, although with Zac Lomax (foot) set to be fit, it’s unlikely.

* Kayal Iro - He was being talked up as a keeper option prior to his injury, then returned from said injury in Magic Round with 71 points. There aren’t many better base stat players in the position and he plays 2/3 big byes.

* Herbie Farnworth - Most SuperCoach points of any CTW this season, plays round 12 and won’t play Origin (he’s English). Notched 78 including a try against the Roosters over the weekend.

* Fletcher Sharpe - Back to form with 128 points including a hat-trick. Relatively cheap at the moment (although he still managed to average mid-50s over the Knights’ form slump). The definite POD option here at just 10 per cent ownership, and could play fullback when Kalyn Ponga is out through Origin.

* Beau Fermor - Went into the round as the second most popular purchase and produced on cue with two tries and 100 points. The dual CTW/2RF status is delightful, although the early bye schedule is not.

* Dylan Lucas - Banged out 89 over the weekend. Take out the try assist and he still scored over 70. Lucas is another priority target right now with his ability to finish as a Top 5 averaging player at both 2RF and CTW. The Knights don’t have a bye between now and Round 18 so the sooner you buy, the sooner you can enjoy his awesome work rate.

* Greg Marzhew - Was popular last week and will be again this week after 74 points without a try. Marzhew’s strength is his floor with 11 tackle busts and 24 runs over the weekend.

* Mark Nawaqanitawase - A shift to the right wing hasn’t slowed down Marky Mark, who’s averaged 80 since the switch. Still undervalued and covers all three big byes.

MORE BUYS (CHEAPIES)

Unfortunately, it’s far from the best cheapie crop we’ve seen, but SuperCoaches are always on the hunt.

* Lyhkan King-Togia - The star teen looked slick with 83 on season debut, including two try assists. The safe option is to wait another week, but plenty will go early this round given he won his spot on merit ahead of Lachlan Ilias. The five-eighth-only positioning is not ideal, although he’ll earn halfback in round 12 if he stays there for the next three rounds.

* Phoenix Crossland and Ryley Smith - Let’s be straight, we wouldn’t even be mentioning these guys if it wasn’t for injuries at hooker over the weekend to Peter Mamouzelous (elbow), who appears out long-term, and Sandon Smith. But desperate times may call for desperate measures.

* Hugo Savala - Most popular cheapie last week but will still sit in cheapie range this week. After averaging just 20.5 in his first two games in the halves, he’s notched back-to-back 60s to set up some big rises. The HFB/2RF dual position is heavenly.

* Luron Patea - It’s very rare we get a FRF cheapie, but plenty may be looking for one in place of Royce Hunt and co. A try, linebreak and eight tackle busts for 81 points in a game-turning display.

* Players to watch in the cheapie space - We’re not saying mortgage the house, but keep an eye on these guys if you’re desperate to free up cash – Charlie Guymer, Corey Allan and Bayleigh Bentley-Hape.

MORE BUYS (TOP GUNS)

* Kalyn Ponga - The Knights are back and Ponga is back, with the Newcastle No. 1 scoring 98 in Magic Round. Has Origin coming so perhaps not a purchase for overall players, but the price of around $550,000 is barely-believable for head-to-head players.

* James Tedesco - Teddy now has a five-round average of almost 100 after 130 in Magic Round. Tedesco is a priority purchase for the Origin period, but has recent form played him back into a NSW spot? Probably not after Dylan Edwards’ Panthers smashed the Broncos on Sunday.

* Nicho Hynes - After a low score of 38 in round six, Nicho Hynes’ SuperCoach scores have been on an upward trajectory, capped off with a stunning 117 in Magic Round. In the mid-$600,000s, available for round 12 and only owned by 18 per cent, which is POD areas for a great of SuperCoach.

* Scott Drinkwater - Another fullback to ton up over Magic Round (127), on top of his 132 the week before. The round 12 bye isn’t ideal in the short term, but his schedule from there is fantastic. Genuine full-season hold.

POD

* Kai Pearce-Paul - Another very solid showing with 62 almost solely in base. He’s flying under the radar big time but is banging out keeper numbers on his preferred right edge. Undervalued, consistent and super lowly-owned at just 1 per cent.

HOLD

* Dylan Egan - Almost 5,000 SuperCoaches regret selling Egan this week - and thousands more regret not putting him in the 17. Egan banged out another near-ton (97) to initiate more price rises on top of the $236,800 already.

* Robert Toia - Toia may still be in over 53% of teams, but his ownership is at its lowest level all year. His first ever Magic Round appearance was a memorable one, churning out a double and a monster SuperCoach score of 140.

* Thomas Jenkins - Almost 15,000 sold this week. Ouch. After two tries, he’s now set for more huge rises as the Panthers surge.

* Savelio Tamale – He’s been a popular sell over recent weeks but is a definite hold at least until the round 12 bye after notching another try.

Buzz hits up The Caxton Hotel

SELL

* Sandon Smith - Was the man of the hour last week, taking out Anzac Day man of the match honours and a SuperCoach score of 129. The 4,339 who traded him in were dealt a cruel, cruel blow when he was ruled out in the opening minutes due to concussion. Thankfully a downgrade from 1 to 0 points saved many auto emergency blushes. With a break even of -8, the price rises have stopped and he’ll be a popular sell for King-Togia or upgraded to a keeper. Note though, Smith’s Roosters have the best bye schedule of any team so he could be handy over that period, having averaged 60 for the season prior to the weekend.

* Peter Mamouzelos - The popular hooker went down in the last minute with a dislocated elbow and is expected out long-term. With Sandon Smith also out this coming week, plenty of SuperCoaches are without a hooker. Unfortunately, hooker is the worst position for SuperCoach this year. Connor Watson is the guy to own but is hardly a buy with Origin looming, plus he’s already very popular. Harry Grant is injured and Tom Starling’s minutes have fallen. Wayde Egan has the top average in the position but only notched 40 on the weekend. Phoenix Crossland and Ryley Smith are the cheapie options but would be very reluctant buys.

* Jaxon Purdue - Has peaked at a massive $650K and can therefore be cashed in for a genuine keeper at very little cost, maybe even at a profit. A big thanks to a great cheapie.

* Lachlan Hubner, Isaiah Iongi, Matty Nicholson, Gehamet Shibasaki, Thomas Cant - Early-season cheapie starting to lose money.

* Mawene Hiroti - Will be a popular sell once again after suffering a long-term knee injury in round 8.
