SuperCoach NRL: Five things we learnt from Manly Sea Eagles vs St George Illawarra Dragons

A new front row weapon emerged with another scintillating display as a few of SuperCoach’s most popular players stumbled. Here are the five things we learnt from Sea Eagles vs Dragons.

Sea Eagles vs. Dragons SuperCoach preview

It was a game of runs, but ultimately St George Illawarra held on at the death to pick up its third win of the season over Manly.

There was plenty to take away from a SuperCoach perspective as well, with coaches looking to get their Easter weekend off to a flyer.

Here are the five things learned from Thursday footy:

DOESN’T PASS THE EYE TEST

To the naked eye you would’ve sworn that Haumole Olakau’atu was in line for a shocker of a score.

A few errors, a late penalty and a tough outing in general made for a tough watch.

But somehow he managed a respectable score of 50 – a good sign moving forward for prospective owners.

KING COOLS OFF

For the second-straight week, Clint ‘King’ Gutherson finished with a below-par score of just 55 points.

Three centuries in his first four games saw his ownership climb to 24%, but in a game where fullbacks reign, this latest outing comes as a blow to owners.

TOBY TAKES FLIGHT

There are few front rowers in the game in better form than Toby Couchman.

He topped all scorers with 90 points, backing up a brilliant previous fortnight of 74 and 82.

Couchman punched out 69 minutes, running for 143m and making 56 tackles in a brilliant effort.

NOT HITTING THE MARK

Sticking with the theme of owners being let down, Reuben Garrick posted his worst score of the season in a week where his breakeven was at a high.

The centre finished with just 34 points, well short of his 103 breakeven, leaving owners with tough decisions to make in the coming weeks.

Do you stick with him or look for another top-range replacement?

YOUNG HOPPA STANDS TALL

How good did Lehi Hopoate look tonight?

He sparked their second half revival and almost single-handedly won them the game.

Hopoate was rewarded with a great score of 89, with his dual-position of appeal, although the Sea Eagles do have a bye coming up.
