RUGBY LEAGUE: A family connection is set to light up Queensland on a huge night of interstate rivalry.
Cousins Shenae Ciesiolka and Jada Ferguson have both been chosen to represent Queensland on Friday night, with Ferguson in the U19s and Ciesiolka in State of Origin.
Ciesiolka said it’s been a joy to witness the rise of Ferguson in her first year of league after making the switch.
“Her journey has been awesome, coming from another sport and giving league a crack,” she said.
“Its good to see her hard work paying off and I’m proud of her.”
Ferguson has enjoyed the spoils of a memorable first year of league, playing for Tweed in the BHP Premiership and representing the Queensland Sapphires at the under-19s Women’s National Championships.
With no crowd restrictions, Ciesiolka said a big family contingent would be on hand at the Sunshine Coast to watch the duo in action.
“There’s no restrictions this time so we can have all the family there,” she said.
“There should be 20-30 all up, so it will be awesome to have that family support.”
The Maroons created history last year when they claimed their first win since the clash was rebranded as Origin.
After helping the Valleys Diehards to a spot in the BHP Premiership, Ciesiolka said they’re determined to defend their crown.
“It’s great that we’ve been able to have 10 days to prepare,” she said.
“I’m excited but also nervous, it’s been a long build-up and we’re all looking forward to getting out there on Friday night.
“When I played last year I was still quite new to the game, but this time around I’ve had a whole season of club before heading into it.
“I come in with a bit more confidence having the chance to build on my game, and I feel a lot more confident in my role.”
Coverage of the Women’s State of Origin begins at 7pm, Friday night on Fox League.
