Reynolds blow sours ‘spectacular’ Broncos win as Tigers’ injury crisis deepens

An injury to Adam Reynolds took the gloss off the Broncos’ thrashing of the Tigers, who have injury concerns of their own.

MAGIC moment turns sour for Reynolds

The Broncos thrashed the Tigers 46-24 on Saturday night but it came at a cost with Adam Reynolds suffering a hamstring injury, while Latu Fainu also went down to give Benji Marshall another playmaker headache.

Reece Walsh starred with two try assists, while Jesse Arthars and Xavier Willison grabbed doubles as the Broncos ran away with it in the second half to go top of the table, albeit with the Bulldogs still to play.

Arthars scored the first try of the night despite replays showing he may have bobbled the put-down in the in-goal.

Lachlan Galvin produced a pinpoint grubber to put the ball on a dime for Luke Laulilii to score in the corner and cut the deficit.

Jahream Bula set up Sunia Turuva for a brilliant long-range try off a Broncos dropout as the Tigers took the lead.

Bula then set up a try for Starford To’a as the Tigers took a commanding lead.

However, Willison produced a brilliant put down from dummy half to square the scores just before halftime.

Reynolds then slotted a long-range two-point field goal to give the Broncos the lead at the break.

Ben Hunt iced a 40/20 after halftime and Willison pounced to score his second and extend the Broncos’ lead.

Reynolds then came up with a superb chip and chase to score a brilliant try and put the Broncos in a commanding position.

However, Reynolds hurt his hamstring kicking the conversion and had to come from the field.

Sione Fainu charged over a couple of Broncos defenders to score and keep the Tigers in the contest.

Tigers halfback Fainu was then ruled out with a category one concussion.

Walsh produced a brilliant cut-out to put Jesse Arthars over for his double to take him to the top of the NRL try-scorer’s list.

Selwyn Cobbo set up a try for Billy Walters with a contentious pass to put the icing on the cake of a big win.

Gehamat Shibasaki continued his hot form by pouncing on a Tigers error to seal the result.

To’a got a late double, but it was too little too late from the Tigers.

In ugly scenes Piakura had to be stretchered from the field after copping a high tackle in the final two minutes, but he was sitting up and responsive after the game.

To’a was sin-binned for taking out Walsh as they jostled to chase a kick capping a frustrating night for the Tigers.

REYNOLDS INJURY SOURS FREAK TRY

On the ground that Allan Langer made his name, Reynolds channelled Brisbane’s greatest ever No. 7 with a superb chip and chase try that would have made Alf proud.

Reynolds combined well with Hunt and spine members Walsh and Cory Paix in a clinical performance.

However, while slotting the conversion to his brilliant try, Reynolds tweaked his hamstring and will likely face time on the sidelines.

That could mean Coby Black or Jock Madden fills the void until Ezra Mam and Reynolds return.

However, Reynolds seemed hopeful he could be right to play next week when he spoke after the game.

FAINU ADDS TO TIGERS PLAYMAKER WOES

The Tigers have their own playmaker woes with skipper Jarome Luai sidelined with a suspension and shoulder injury to miss the Broncos game.

His replacement Fainu showed plenty of spark and promise, but his night was cut short by a concussion.

Marshall could be ruing the decision to let Jayden Sullivan join the Rabbitohs, after he set up the win against the Roosters a night earlier.

The Tigers may need to use Api Koroisau in the halves next week if Luai is not fit with Tallyn Da Silva to potentially start at hooker.
