Teenage sensation Reegan Hicks is set to make her NRLW debut this weekend when the Brisbane Broncos take on the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday.
The Sunshine Coast rising star earned her first full-time deal with the Broncos this year after previously signing as a development player at Red Hill in 2024.
The Broncos ultimately won the battle to secure Hicks’ prized signature after she previously spent time in the Titans’ under-19 academy.
Since earning a place in the final 24-player NRLW squad, the 18-year-old has relished the opportunity to learn from some of the game’s greats.
“I was shocked but I think I was so excited and when I got to training, it was so real to me and I was really excited,” Hicks said.
“Being around Tamika Upton, Romy Teitzel it’s crazy, I get the opportunity to be around these amazing players, it’s really cool.
“Training has been pretty hard but it’s been fun, all of the girls are so lovely to be around and I’ve been really excited to see what this season has ahead.
“I’m just taking it all in, it’s just an amazing opportunity for me to even be in this space I don’t want to take anything for granted.”
Hicks’ rugby league journey began in Woodford with the Stanley River Wolves, before joining the Gympie Devils and Beerwah Bulldogs where she made her senior women’s debut.
“I think it’s been so quick but it’s definitely been that build up of going through all the stages which has been an amazing opportunity and I think it’s helped me get to where I am now,” she said.
A graduate form the Norths Devils and Redcliffe Dolphins junior representative programs, Hicks first caught the eye in 2024 when she was named in the Queensland under-19s State of Origin side.
She was back more determined and better than ever this year as co-captain of the side and even crossed over for the Maroons’ first try of the contest.
“I was more confident this year going into it because I knew what to expect from camp and then obviously from the game,” Hicks said.
“I didn’t take anything for granted because it was my last year in 19s and I was like ‘woah, I’ll never be here again’.
“I wasn’t expecting that try, but it was pretty cool to be named co-captain with Nadia (Windleborn).”
