Fullback Te Maire Martin had a traumatic end to his Broncos career on Saturday when he finished in a hospital emergency ward with a collapsed lung.
Martin, who will join the Warriors on a three year deal next season, was having trouble breathing after being kneed in the back during the match against the Dragons.
“Te Maire spent some time in emergency where tests confirmed a small Pneumothorax, or collapsed lung, which prevented him from flying back with the team yesterday morning,’’ Broncos Head Of Performance Dave Ballard said.
“Te Maire’s symptoms stabilised and he was driven home to Brisbane by a Bronco staff member yesterday, and he is now resting and recovering.
With permission: Te Maire Martin sustained blunt trauma to his back in a tackle Sat night. He had respiratory distress and went to Emergency where a Pneumothorax was confirmed. It is small and a chest drain was not needed, but he cannot fly until it and he is cleared.

“We will continue to monitor him to ensure his recovery remains on track.”
Martin has been a significant success story for the Broncos this season after joining the club on a base level contract after he had retired from the game due to a bleed on the brain in 2020.
His communication skills and experience were greatly valued by the team and a key part of the Broncos mid-season form surge.
