Proud South Sydney junior Cameron Murray has been hailed as the perfect choice to replace Brisbane-bound Adam Reynolds as Rabbitohs skipper.
Souths centre Campbell Graham believes Murray would excel as the club’s next captain following Reynolds’ departure.
The Bunnies and Blues forward is only 23, but according to Graham, his teammate possesses all the qualities to thrive with the little “c” next to his name.
“He (Cam) definitely would make a good captain,” Graham said about Murray, who has played 100 NRL games for Souths since making his debut at the club in 2017.
“He is young, but he is a leader in our group already.
“We just follow him by his actions. He makes all the right choices on and off the field, and when he talks, you listen.
“He really leads by example.”
Murray has also produced arguably his finest first grade season for Souths this year.
He consistently performs at a high level in attack and defence and exudes confidence, which rubs off on his teammates.
The Rabbitohs will need Murray at his brilliant best in the finals to have any chance of winning the premiership this season following Latrell Mitchell’s season-ending high tackle suspension.
Graham has full faith in his former junior teammate to deliver for Souths on the biggest stage.
“He rarely has an off game, Cam,” he said.
“I love playing with him and it was honour to play in his 100th game, especially given I’ve played alongside him in the juniors and the 20s and then coming through and playing first grade with him.
“He is one of those players that brings confidence to the team and the group, and he is an even better bloke off the field as well.
“He cares about his teammates, and he works so hard on the field – that is why we love playing with him.”
