The Gold Coast Titans have claimed a thrilling Golden Point victory over the St. George Illawarra Dragons in Brisbane, with a heart-wrenching error from young gun Talatau Amone proving the game-changing moment in extra-time.

The lead was exchanged on several occasions throughout the Magic Round clash at Suncorp Stadium, with Jarrod Wallace’s try in the 73rd minute sending the contest to Golden Point.

Zac Lomax missed two of his three conversion kicks, while Dragons veteran Josh McGuire was sent to the sin bin in the first half of his 250th NRL game for making a tackle in an off-side position — but instead of taking advantage of the extra man, Gold Coast conceded a try while McGuire was on the bench.

Both sides botched several field goal attempts in extra-time, with the Round 10 match seemingly destined for a draw.

But with less than two minutes remaining on the clock, Amone gifted the Titans an extra set in prime field position by dropping the footy near the Dragons tryline, with the wet conditions in Brisbane taking its toll on the exhausted players.

It was one of many mistakes during an error-riddled nine minutes, but undeniably the most costly.

Gold Coast didn’t need long to take advantage of the blunder, with Jamayne Isaako scoring on right wing in the 89th minute to complete the comeback victory.

After missing two field goal attempts in extra-time, it seemed appropriate that Isaako was the man who dived over to secure the much-needed win.

“What a rollercoaster this is,” Fox League commentator Andrew Voss sighed.

“It’s been exhausting.”

It ended an agonising five-game losing streak for the Titans, who slide up to 13th spot on the NRL ladder.

“It’s unbelievable,” Isaako said after the match.

“The boys told me to stay out on the wing after two field goal attempt. I was grateful I was able to get it. It’s great for the club and to win for our fans. Losing five games is frustrating but hopefully we can build towards putting our season back on track.”

The Titans will next host the Cronulla Sharks at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday, May 22, with kick-off scheduled for 4.05pm AEST.
