NRL Transfer Market: Raiders express interest in Tyrone Peachey

Unwanted Gold Coast Titans utility Tyrone Peachey has a potential suitor – but he’ll need to lower his asking price in a big way.

Canberra is shortly expected to hold talks with Gold Coast and former NSW utility, Tyrone Peachey.

Raiders management isn’t rushing any decision but have chosen to kickstart discussions to determine their interest in Peachey and his interest in the club.

Canberra continues to look at players for their halves after struggling to fill the void left this year when Englishman George Williams left the club mid-season.

The Daily Telegraph has been told Peachey, off contract this year, has been offered to Canberra.

Raiders management has discussed Peachey for the past three days and were interested enough to call a meeting at a yet-to-be-determined date.

Peachey was earning a handsome wage on the Gold Coast but may be forced to sign a new deal worth around $250,000 a season.

Gold Coast management confirmed on Tuesday that the club wouldn’t re-sign Peachey or halfback Ash Taylor.

Peachey was being paid about $500,000 a season at Robina.

Still only 28, Peachey played all three games for NSW during the 2018 series. He has also been shopped to the Brisbane Broncos.

Peachey was heavily instrumental in guiding Gold Coast into this year’s finals series, only to be beaten in week one by just a point against Sydney Roosters.

He played in multiple positions through the season.

Canberra has set about to find a player who can play halfback or five-eighth but the club may opt to use Peachey as a utility player.

Peachey was lured from Penrith to Gold Coast under then Titans coach Garth Brennan in 2019.

The Titans also confirmed the club had released Mitch Rein, Jai Whitbread and Jonus Pearson.

BATTLE FOR RABBITOH HEATS UP

Expected to replace Dane Gagai next season in an all-star South Sydney backline, Braidon Burns is considering offers from two Sydney rivals.

Touted as the next big thing at the Rabbitohs until a knee injury halted what had been a meteoric rise, Burns is being pursued by both the Sharks and the Tigers.

News Corp understands Burns has put himself on the open market after South Sydney made an unders offer to keep him at Redfern next year.

The young centre has had several expressions of interest but the Sharks and the Tigers have emerged as frontrunners to snare him on a multi-year deal.

Under incoming coach Craig Fitzgibbon, the Sharks are set to field a new-look team next year having already secured a long line of recruits headlined by Melbourne duo Dale Finucane and Nico Hynes.
