Former Dragons playmaker Talatau Amone will have his $500,000 contract ripped up with the 21-year-old choosing not to appeal the NRL’s ruling to deregister him after being found guilty of a hammer attack in October.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Amone will not petition against the NRL’s decision after being given until Wednesday to do so if he wished.

However, Amone will cop his medicine and now faces an uncertain future in rugby league.

Amone was contracted with St George Illawarra until the end of the 2024 season.

Before the NRL even considers a reinstatement, Amone must compete 300 hours of court-mandated community service.

Amone was able to play in 2023 for the Dragons despite the looming court date in October, where he was found guilty of chasing a tradesman off a roof during a heated dispute in Wollongong in November 2022.

While the court ultimately ruled against him, Amone avoided prison. Instead he was sentenced to a two-year intensive corrections order in addition to the 300 hours of community service.

The Dragons made a couple of moves this off-season in anticipation of Amone’s deregistration, signing playmakers Kyle Flanagan and Ronald Volkman.

Volkman was released from his deal from the Warriors two years early to sign with the Dragons in search of greater opportunity.
