The audio from Smith’s SEN podcast The Captain’s Run was uploaded before quickly being taken down and then posted online once again.

Smith was talking to co-host Denan Kemp when he spoke about Munster’s injury and just how bad things actually are for the Storm five-eighth.

While the Storm are optimistic of a return to the line-up in round five, Smith’s comments suggest it may be a lot later in the season before he is back on the park.

“It’s a bit concerning the Munster thing, hey,” Smith said.

“They have no idea, they actually have no idea when he is going to be okay. He can hardly run. The last I heard was before last week’s game, they (were) just like mate it is a day by day thing.”

Speaking on Fox League’s broadcast, Panthers great Greg Alexander revealed he’d heard similar to Smith and noted Munster’s groin issue could be more complex than first thought.

“I had heard that it was a bit odd, a bit strange,” Alexander said.

“It wasn’t your regulation groin injury. Cameron Smith is just confirming that, that they’re trying to find out what the problem is.

“When you’re dealing with groins, it could be a whole lot of issues. It could be hips, it could be lower back, it could be hamstrings, it could be a lot of related things that can then be causing problems with the groin.

“It’s a concern, they’re doing pretty well without him, but it will continue to get harder for them the longer Cameron Munster is out.

“He’s one of the best players in the game so remove him out of the side long term, and it will be tough for them.”

The 29-year-old Munster slipped in the shower during the team’s time in Fiji for a pre-season game against the Newcastle Knights.

“Cameron is getting closer,” the club’s General Manager of Football, Frank Ponissi, said ahead of the Knights match on Sunday.

“With the bye next weekend, we’re very hopeful that he’ll be back for the Broncos game here in a fortnight.”

Storm coach Craig Bellamy couldn’t hide his dismay at losing his star player on the eve of the 2024 season.

“It’s just been a bit of a rollercoaster where it looks like he’s going to improve and he does a bit of training and then it sort of gets sore again,” Bellamy said on the eve of the season.

“It’s disappointing for us but also it’s disappointing for Cameron too as he’s done everything that has been asked of him.”

Despite being without Munster the Storm have started the season with two straight wins defeating the Penrith Panthers and New Zealand Warriors.
