Broncos stars hit back as Walsh’s X-rated ref spray takes a twist

New footage of Reece Walsh’s expletive-laden tirade has come to light which raises serious question marks about the incident.

Broncos stars Reece Walsh and Adam Reynolds have responded on social media to claims the fullback directed an expletive-filled outburst at referee Chris Butler during their side’s shock 18-12 loss to the Titans.

A new angle of the incident has been obtained by Fox League (see above) with the vision appearing to show Walsh remonstrate towards Butler before the fullback was escorted away and warned to calm down by teammates.

The superstar Broncos fullback was referred straight to the judiciary on Monday morning after an on-field microphone appeared to pick up him abusing Butler when the referee penalised the Broncos star for an obstruction.

After the comment - which featured the F and C-words - was caught by Butler, the referee marched the Titans an extra ten metres downfield.

Both Walsh and Reynolds posted on a Fox League Instagram video of the incident Sunday night that Butler wasn’t the attended target of the spray.

“Show the full clip. Was talking to a player on the other team,” Reynolds commented.

“I was not talking too [sic] the ref, I clearly say that!! Can also see Patty [Carrigan] come over and talk too [sic] me!!” Walsh posted.

Butler and Walsh’s Broncos teammates are heard in the audio trying to warn and calm down the fullback from continuing on with the tirade.

Walsh also posted on his private Instagram account, apologising for his conduct but claiming the spray was directed at another player.

He also confirmed he had reached out to Butler to apologise.

Unlike the Broncos, the Titans would hold their nerve in a few tense moments late, to hold out their Queensland rivals, giving Jim Lenihan a victory in his first game as Gold Coast interim coach.

It was a frustrating 80 minutes for the Brisbane side, who failed to capitalise on a number of golden opportunities.

Despite Walsh’s excuse, his spray could see him face multiple weeks out through suspension and rule him out of Origin III.

It was only on Wednesday night the Maroons star was fined 23 per cent of his State of Origin match fee after being sent off for a headbutt on Blues’ Jarome Luai.
