‘Devastated’: South Australian netballer Ivy-Rose Hughes dies in fatal crash
A community has been left devastated after talented South Australian Ivy-Rose Hughes died in a fatal car crash on Wednesday evening.

Tributes have flown for South Australian netballer Ivy-Rose Hughes, who died in a fatal car crash on Wednesday evening.
The 19-year-old was killed after a vehicle she was a passenger in collided with another car at an intersection in McLaren Vale, The Advertiser reported.
According to the report, both cars went down an embankment, with Hughes’ vehicle flipping on its side.
“Police and emergency services were called to the intersection of Main Road and Malpas Road, after reports of a collision involving a Mazda SUV and a Mitsubishi utility,” South Australia Police said in a statement.
“A passenger in the Mazda, a 19-year-old Banksia Park woman died at the scene.
“The driver of the Mazda and three other passengers were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
“The three occupants of the Mitsubishi were also taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
“Major Crash officers attended the scene to investigate the collision. Roads were closed in the area for most of the night but have since reopened.”
Hughes represented the prestigious Matrics Netball Club and the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI), competing in the Under 17 National Championships from 2019 to 2020.
The Matrics Netball Club released a statement on Facebook: “An incredible netballer and even more incredible young woman, the entire netball community has been saddened by this news,” the post read.
“Our thoughts are with Ivy’s family and loved ones at this time, along with the entire netball family who are feeling the impact of this great loss.”
The SASI also released a statement on social media on Thursday.

Hughes’ death takes the number of lives lost on South Australian roads to 15 this year.
