CRICKET: Met-Easts captain David Pollock “played his natural game” last Saturday and it paid off.
Pollock entered the fray with his team struggling at 2-7 and the University bowling attack in hot form.
He left the field of play with the score at 192 after he amassed 146 runs off 124 balls – his first TCI A-grade century.
“It’s good to get the monkey off my back with my first century in Toowoomba,” he said.
“We were struggling early so I decided when I stepped up to bat I’d do my best to take the momentum and control away from the bowlers.
“I naturally play a bit of an aggressive game with the bat, which is what I did and it paid off.
“I think it was a combination of things going my way a little bit and just feeling good out there as well.
“Matthew Elford (32 off 135 balls) deserves a mention as well – he was a brick wall down the other end while I was scoring the runs.”
Brandon Sabburg, Simon Dennis and Benedict Lee also contributed with the bat, and Met-Easts finished the day with 298 runs.
Chasing victory on the final day of play, Pollock said the approach would be relatively simple.
“We’ve put together a really good score – now we have to bowl well,” he said.
“We’ve a got a few boys back for the second day which will help us in that area.
“The key thing will be to put the ball in the right places and bowl good lines for long periods of time.
“We need to build and keep the pressure on them and take wickets in bunches when we can.
“If we can do that, I think we’re a good chance of winning.”
Andrew Johnston with 3-51 and James Crosby with 3-53 were the pick of the University bowlers.
