South Adelaide captain Jess Paradiso says her side will not be dwelling on last year’s painful Netball SA Premier League grand final loss to Contax during this Wednesday’s season opening clash with the reigning premier.

In one of the great deciders in competition history, the Panthers led by five goals after the first of two periods of extra time but could not get the job done, going down 64-63.

Now, South Adelaide and Contax will kick off the new season with a grand final rematch.

Paradiso said recovering from the grand final defeat had been tough but that her team was ready for a tough battle first up against Contax.

“It was a tough time after that, I’m not going to lie,” Paradiso said.

“While it hurt, you can’t dwell on the past.

“We learned a lot from that and it’s time to move on and look towards having a strong start to this season.”

South Adelaide has enjoyed a solid pre-season after retaining most of its list and adding multiple new faces, namely former Oakdale defender Alex Ward.

Contax also boasts a strong team after re-signing a number of players including rising young gun defender Jazmin McKay.

Paradiso said she was positive about the team’s direction heading into Wednesday’s big matchup.

“Prep has been really good in the pre-season,” she said.

“We’ve been together since the start of the year and there has been a lot of fitness involved.

“From the few hit-outs we’ve had leading up to the season there has been some promising stuff and the team is gelling well.

“We got that first game against Contax since the grand final over and done with in Queensland for the pre-season and now we’re mentally moving on to the season.

“We know what to expect from them at this stage and we’re looking forward to coming up against them and hopefully getting a win on the board.”
