It was a mismatch heading in and the final 84-19 result proved exactly that in Kingston’s big win over Karana on Saturday night.
The finals bound Blues never faced a serious challenge throughout the round 20 meeting, keeping the Flames to single figure scoring in every quarter of the game.
That included a massive 40-5 second-half.

Karana v Kingston (19&U) – 2025 Tasmanian Netball League Round 20
PREVIEW
Despite being a lock for finals and coming up against a winless side, Kingston will go into its match with Karana as focused as if they were playing in a grand final this weekend.
With two games to go of the TNL season, Kingston sit second, a position they will stay in when finals come around.
Their round 20 clash against the Flames will be available live and exclusive on KommunityTV from 5.30pm on Saturday, with the U19s clash kicking off the action at 4pm.
Kingston coach Tania McNear said the motivation doesn’t come from who they are playing.
“It comes from the level we hold ourselves to, this is about playing our Blues brand of netball, at our intensity, no matter the opposition,” McNear said.
“We treat every game as preparation for finals, this will be an opportunity to fine-tune combinations, push fitness under pressure and lock in systems we need firing in the semi-final.
“Karana might not have had wins, but they’ll be desperate and desperate teams are dangerous.
“If we come in soft, we invite a contest, (but) if we bring our full game, we’ll control it from the start.
“We respect Karana and that helps avoid complacency and reminds players that intensity is non-negotiable.”
The Blues beat the Flames 74-33 in the first meeting between the two in round 6 and in round 13 Kingston dominated with a 58-point win.
McNear said this season has taught her plenty.
“This season has taught me that although every player brings elite skills, I’ve learned that the edge often comes from connection, clarity and consistency,” McNear said.
“One of my key leanings as a coach has been how crucial it is to empower players to take ownership – not just of their own roles, but of the standards and team culture we’re building.
“We have worked hard on this over two years and it is really paying off.”
In the under-19s clash between the two sides, despite not being able to make finals, Karana are determined to spice things up a bit for the top four.
Flames captain Ava Loring said her side will use the next two weeks to build into the next season and look to return to finals in 2026.
