2025 Langer Trophy live stream: Keebra Park SHS v Stretton State College, Round 5

Two plays in two minutes is all it took from Keebra Park’s magician to overwhelm Stretton as they thundered to a 66-0 rout. Watch both Langer Trophy and Schoolgirls Cup REPLAYS.

Gus Gould may have solved Canterbury’s biggest positional headache in a single off-season after landing the signature of the best fullback prospect out of Keebra Park since Reece Walsh.

Queensland’s national championship-winning fullback David Bryenton was linked with the Brisbane Broncos until Gould came knocking.

That investment is starting to look like getting in on the ground floor of Bitcoin.

Two plays, two minutes apart, in Thursday’s 66-0 Langer Trophy win over Stretton State College hinted at the extraordinary potential the Bulldogs have snapped up.

Bryenton was caught flat-footed with a hospital pass floating in the air above him and a defender bearing down upon him, 15m from the goalline and without an option in sight.

Nine seconds later Keebra Park had scored on the opposite wing.

What happened in between is why every Bulldogs fan should be tuning in to KommunityTV for the latest circus act from Keebra Park’s magician-in-chief.

A flash of heels and Bryenton had beaten the first man with a spin move. Then came the right foot, and the acceleration to blast clear of trouble.

Two rapid sidesteps, both off the right, and Stretton’s defensive line was in shambles.

Then came the left foot step, and the strength to hold off three defenders and pop an offload for backrower Kalani Patu to fall over the line.

The look on the Strettonite faces said it all. They had Bryenton dead to rights, until they didn’t.

Those slow to learn their lesson had their chance again 90 seconds later.

Floating into the line off block-shape, Bryenton pumped the brakes to goad the defence into slowing with him.

A burst of footwork left the first defender sprawled in the dirt, another diving at the space where Bryenton previously occupied and the cover defender helpless to stop him at the line.

A Thursday midday schoolboy game is a far cry from playing the Rabbitohs or Roosters and the 18-year-old is not the finished product yet.

But for Bulldogs fans crying out for a fullback to complete their star-studded backline ... Gus may have found something for under the tree this Christmas.

DELAY MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO KEEBRA

Keebra Park’s push for maiden women’s national championship is gaining momentum with a 42-4 victory over Stretton State College in a rescheduled NRL Schoolgirls Cup match on Thursday.

The fixture was moved to dodge lightning yesterday but Keebra Park brought the thunder all the same in a nine-tries-to-one victory, built by a storming forward pack and razor sharp playmaking.

The hosts scored a try on every completed set with spine mates Torah Luadaka and Skylah Samson slicing and dicing with their ballplaying.

Fullback Samson ruled the left edge with a try and two try assists while halfback Luadaka recorded a try assist and a weaving solo try on the stroke of halftime.

Keebra was momentarily rattled by the loss of lock Ata Te Hokowhitu-Wynne to a lower leg injury late in the first period.

The match paused for several minutes and a distracted Keebra fumbled the ball twice on its next two sets.

A forward pass denied Stretton its first try in the corner and that snapped Keebra back to attention, marching 90m and scoring through Luadaka to seize a commanding 18-0 lead.

Stretton started the second half strong by winning the race to a bouncing ball in-goal but hopes of a second half fightback were dashed when that score was nullified by back-to-back Keebra Park bargeovers.

Another trio of strikes sealed a fourth-straight victory for Queensland’s unbeaten NRL Schoolgirls Cup leaders.

PREVIEW

Two teams at opposite ends of the ladder will face off on Wednesday when Keebra Park hosts Stretton State College in round 5 of the Langer Trophy.

Keebra has stormed out of the blocks winning all four games so far, while Stretton has yet to claim a win in its first season in the competition.

The Keebra v Stretton clash will form part of a Wednesday triple header on KommunityTV, with both the Walters Cup and Schoolgirls Cup games also available live and exclusive from 2.30pm.

Stretton coach Rhys Jacks is aware of the challenge which awaits his side and expects his players to step up for the challenge.

“After three weeks off the boys are definitely itching to get back out there and finish the season off,” he said.

“The boys want to challenge themselves against the best, if you want to be the best you’ve got to play the best and that is this week against Keebra.

“A few of their boys were in the Queensland Schoolboys team so the boys will come up against the guys who are the best in the state for their age groups.”

Jacks said the team is purely focusing on themselves and what they can do to gain confidence for the back end of the season.

“We have been able to take little positive areas out of all four games so far and I guess the big step up is being able to do it for a whole game.

“If you can do a few really good things against an opposition like (Keebra), it holds us in really good stead to finish strong for the final two games

“Obviously it is a massive step up for our school, we’ve been chasing it for a little while and we’re really proud to be here.”

At the other end of the ladder, Keebra Park coach Peter Norman wants his side to pick up where they left off as they begin work to ensure they are in top shape when finals roll round.

“We’ve laid a really good platform, we started the season strongly but if we come out and go backwards from here that’s obviously not what you want,” he said.

“If you look at Marsden and PBC (Palm Beach Currumbin) over the last couple of years, they’ve gone on a run from places as low as fourth or fifth.

“So it is not how you start, it’s how you finish and making sure we get five per cent better each week as well.”

Fresh off the back of a stunning performance for the Queensland Schoolboys team, Keebra Park fullback David Bryenton will be a player to watch in this week’s game.

The electric back has been one of the Langer Trophy’s best players this year and is a key reason why his school is on top of the ladder after four games.

“I’m really impressed with him, he’s such a great kid and obviously a talented footballer,” Norman said.

“Off the field he’s a really good kid as well and wants to get better every week.

“He’s a great kid so I was really happy when he was named in that Australian Schoolboys team.”
