Southern Suburbs’ historic undefeated run to start the 2025 Far North Queensland Rugby League season has lived on, as they downed Mossman-Port Douglas in a thriller.
Cockatoos halfback James Frazer once again played a starring role, scoring his team’s opening try and nailing three vital shots at goal, including a late second half penalty kick which proved the difference in the 14-12 scoreline.
The Sharks came ever so close to pulling off a stunning upset, but were unable to stave off a Suburbs outfit that has now won back-to-back games by just two points.

Reserves
A heroic 100 metre try from Stanley Anau has put the exclamation point on an incredible comeback win for Mossman Port-Douglas over Southern Suburbs 28-20.
The Sharks trailed big in the opening half, down 14-0 at one point, but they refused to go away, eventually taking the lead in the second half before holding off a valiant Suburbs attacking foray.
It was Anau’s try which ensured his team got across the line, pouncing on an errant pass to run in the sealer with no time remaining.

Under-19s
Mossman Port-Douglas took care of business in the under-19s clash which opened up today’s proceedings, with Jermaine Ryan running in five tries for the victors.
This was the opening clash of the day after the women’s game was cancelled, and the Sharks made a statement with their 44-4 victory over the Cockatoos.

Preview
Mossman-Port Douglas will back its philosophy in to take on the Far North Queensland Rugby League’s best sides this season, according to coach Noel Underwood.
The Sharks are set to put to the test as they take on their biggest challenge of the season so far when they host Southern Suburbs at Coronation Park on Saturday night.
It will be one of four action-packed games live streamed exclusively here on KommunityTV.
Underwood said his side would need to rise to the occasion against the competition benchmark Cockatoos, who are undefeated so far this campaign.
However two straight victories and a promising performance earlier in the season against powerhouse Brothers have the Sharks looming as a dangerous proposition.
“We’ve got a really big test this week against Suburbs who have become sort of the team to beat this season,” Underwood said.
“We know they have a really strong forward pack, where once they get rolling they’re tough to stop, so we need to get prepped for that.
“We’ve shown in the performance we put in against Brothers that we can compete with the best in the competition. When we play as a team and play our style we can compete with anyone.”
The Cockatoos’ improvement compared against their winless 2024 campaign is scarcely believable, and they won’t be eager to let their unbeaten record slip when these two sides hit the field.
The live stream action will begin with the Sharks’ women taking on Edmonton at 1.30pm, followed by three games between Mossman and Suburbs.
The under-19s will be first at 3pm, followed by the reserves and 4.30pm and A-grade at 6pm.
