Southern Suburbs junior Jaxon is fighting like the tiger which adorns the footy jersey he wears every weekend.

Earlier this month the eight-year-old’s parents took him to hospital with the young front rower suffering from excruciating headaches.

Doctors discovered a mass in his brain and he was immediately flown to Brisbane Royal Children’s Hospital where he is currently in ICU after two major surgeries.

The Toowoomba rugby league community has rallied behind Jaxon with more than $6000 raised as part of a gofundme campaign supporting him and his parents.

Jaxon’s under-9 coach Matt Gainey described the league community’s immediate support as heartwarming.

“The great thing about the Toowoomba rugby league community is how quickly it supports these type of things,” Mr Gainey said.

“You see a lot and read about a lot of negative stuff nowadays and it is very sad Jaxon and his family are going through this, but then you see how everyone is getting behind it (the gofundme) and that is pretty amazing.”

Southern Suburbs have also been hard at work fundraising for Jaxon at their senior and junior home games.

Mr Gainey said the decision was an easy one to make for a player that is a ‘pleasure to coach’.

“When I made the decision to coach juniors after playing and coaching seniors I wanted to focus on helping encourage them to be good people not just good players,” he said.

“Jaxon is a great young man, a pleasure to coach, and he absolutely loves his footy.

“He’s very old school for such a young kid and the funny thing about that is his favourite player is Hamiso ‘The Hammer’ Tabuai-Fidow.

“So you have this hardworking kid who plays in the front row and his favourite player is pretty much the opposite of him – a flashy fullback.”
