The Western Clydesdales are set to run out in front of Toowoomba faithful for one final time in 2024 this Sunday when they take on the Brisbane Tigers in a blockbuster clash at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

The venue played host to their only victory so far this season, a thrilling 32-30 win over the Redcliffe Dolphins in round 8 and coach Jason Alchin hopes there will be a strong turnout of Darling Downs rugby league fans ahead of their last home game.

“It would be great if everyone comes to support what we’ve been doing, the boys would really appreciate it,” Alchin said.

The Clydesdales head into this clash determined to bounce back from a disappointing display against the Northern Pride where they suffered a 46-0 defeat and Alchin has labelled who he believes could be the game-changers for his side this weekend.

“I think our fullback’s a fine young man, he’s only 19 from Gatton, Kaden Buhse, he goes really well,” he said.

“Our forward pack, our captain Emry Pere, he leads by example and Blake Lenehan he also leads by example.

“I juts hope they have a good game, I just want the whole 17 to perform.”

While the clash against the Pride was one to forget, Alchin did take pride in the way his side responded in the second half after going down 40-0 at half time.

“The side that is leading the comp, we kept them to one try in the second half and I think it showed the boys what we can do if we stick by the processes,” he said.

“The first half, it was just one of them games, it was bit of full on for them and we made some silly errors and with a side like the Pride, they will hurt you hard.”

One of the main areas for improvement has been the way the Clydesdales respond to setbacks, with opponents often scoring several tries in short periods.

Alchin believes that with experience, his side will learn how to control the game after conceding tries or finding themselves on the back foot.

“The big thing is, every team has setbacks, a lot of these other teams have guys that have played 60 to 100 games in Queensland Cup,” he said.

“We have guys that have played eight, nine, 10 or 20 games.

“We are slowly learning how to play ourselves that’s what this game is all about, not about age, about how many games you’ve played.

We had seven local players a few weeks back, I don’t think there’d by any team in the Queensland Cup that can say that.

“We just want to improve and the wins will come.”
