Up against a low flying Ipswich Jets this Saturday, the Western Clydesdales have labelled their round 5 Hostplus Cup game as ‘a must win’.

The winless Clydesdales had no time to rest during the Easter break with demanding training schedule focused on attacking structure and finishing of sets.

“Training has definitely been tough but we’ve all been working really hard, especially in our attacking structures,” hooker Drew Timms said.

“There’s been a big focus on our attack, which has shown improvement but we are all new to one another so we are still trying to hone our combinations.”

Back in action after a head-knock ruled him out of the Sunshine Coast Falcons game, Timms is keen to ignite the Clydesdales cup campaign.

“We are improving but we need that time together,” Timms said.

“(Coach) Jason (Alchin) has stressed this is a must win game for our confidence and to get points on the board before our next home game.”

Lining up in Queensland Rugby League’s elite statewide competition for the first time this year, Timms said he is enjoying the challenge of playing against the game’s bet.

“I’m really enjoying myself but it definitely is a big jump up from what I’m used to,” he said.

“There are technical aspects of the game I wasn’t even aware of and the contact is big, but the most surprising thing was the sheer speed of play.

“You’ve always got to be on top of your game, there is no time to switch off, and you need to always put in the extra effort in each play.”

The Clydesdales will travel down to Ipswich on Saturday 15, with kick-off at 3pm.
