Tips and Insights to find The 2024 Everest Race Winner!

Bella Nipotina was the big drifter after the barriers were allocated under the Big Top on Tuesday night for the $20 million The Everest at Royal Randwick.

Bella Nipotina eased from $6 to $8 while the only firmer after the barrier draw was Joliestar, in from $7 to $6. The full betting market is listed below.

This year will be the first time The Everest has been run as a Group 1 race after it was recently granted black-type status.

As usual, there were winners and losers from the barrier draw, with Godolphin trainer James Cummings on the right side of the ledger.

Speaking to News Corp post the barrier draw, James Cummings, trainer of three-year-old Traffic Warden, was more than happy.

“It’s a perfect draw,” Cummings said after drawing barrier two.

“We were hoping to draw inside four and we’re just hoping that we can capitalise on it now.”

Giga Kick, an $11 chance, won The Everest two years ago as a three-year-old but missed last year’s main event after suffering an injury in the lead up to the $20m showpiece.

The Clayton Douglas-trained gelding didn’t race in the autumn but Australian Turf Club (ATC) saw enough in two spring runs to lock him in for The Everest.

His chances were enhanced with a perfect draw in barrier three.

“We are on the comeback trial and have been really happy with how he is going,” Douglas declared.

“I am really happy with the barrier draw, it gives us options.”

I Wish I Win, runner-up last year, maintained favouritism at $5 after drawing barrier nine.

This year will be the eighth running of the race after Redzel claimed the inaugural victory in 2017 before going back-to-back 12 months later.

The 2022 winner Giga Kick is the only runner in this year’s race that can emulate the deeds of Redzel on Saturday, last year’s winner Think About It is one of the four emergencies.

In 2024 the field is made up of three older geldings, five mares and four three-year-olds making this renewal a unique edition of the race.

Three four-year-old plus geldings is the lowest number to have ever contested the race. That record was previously held last year when there were seven meeting that age and sex category.

This year will also showcase the most mares and three-year-olds to have run in an edition of The Everest.

Joe Pride’s Everest pick: Why it’s a race in three

There are five mares, which eclipses 2019 when there were four while four three-year-olds outdoes the inaugural year when three fillies’ ran in the race.

A total of 10 three-year-olds have previously run in The Everest for two wins, Yes Yes Yes in 2019 and Giga Kick in 2022.

Previous winning trainers that have runners this year are Chris Waller, Joe Pride and Clayton Douglas while Kerrin McEvoy, Craig Williams and James McDonald have been the successful jockeys in the race.

The Premiere Stakes has produced three winners in the race, The Shorts two and the Golden Rose one.

Barrier 5 is the only starting gate to have won the race multiple times while the other successful barriers have been 1, 4, 6, 9 and 10.

Only three saddlecloths have tasted victory in The Everest – 3 on three occasions, 1 and 12 twice each.
