1 – BROADSIDING

Star colt that had his colours lowered second-up when unable to overhaul Linebacker in the Randwick Guineas (1600m). Has the same set up last spring, 1400m into 1600m into 2000m when third in the Cox Plate behind the rampant Via Sistina and Japanese raider Prognosis.

VERDICT: The one they have to beat.

2 – GOLDRUSH GURU

Victoria Derby winner in the spring. Arrives here fourth-up and closed off in good style last time out in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. Now out to 2000m which is right in his wheelhouse. Will make his own luck on speed and take some catching.

VERDICT: Wonder if they were watching how Linebacker was ridden in the Randwick Guineas?

3 – SWIFTFALCON

Kept finding the line when less than a length from the winner in the Randwick Guineas after he closed off better than anything to finish second to Broadsiding first-up in the Hobartville. Now out to 2000m and his spring runs in the Gloaming and Spring Champion confirm he’ll run the trip.

VERDICT: One of the leading players.

4 – CHECKMATE

Kiwi raider that comes out the inaugural $NZ 3.5 million The Kiwi (1500m) where he finished third behind the filly Damask Rose. This is the eighth run of his first prep and has never gone beyond 1500m previously although he did keep coming in The Kiwi.

VERDICT: The class of this will find him out.

5 – PLYMOUTH

Solid first-up in the Autumn Stakes when second behind Angel Capital then was in restricted room and mostly hands and heels when fifth in the Australian Guineas (1600m). Tested over 1800m in the spring when midfield throughout in the Batman Stakes (1800m) at Flemington during Cup Week.

VERDICT: Drawn to get his chance but a query at 2000m.

6 – SAVOUR THE DREAM

Queenslander that strung two wins together before venturing south to run in the Australian Guineas and was three wide throughout before only beating home a couple of runners. Again has to overcome a wide draw and is a big class query.

VERDICT: Not up to this standard.

7 – OUR BENEFACTOR

Stablemate to Savour The Dream and he came down to Sydney to run in the Randwick Guineas after recording three straight wins in Queensland. He only passed a couple of stragglers in the straight in the Randwick Guineas but did run the fourth best last 200m of the race. Jockey change with Zac Lloyd going on. Appears the stable’s top seed.

VERDICT: Has place claims.

8 – KOSUKE

Tested in the Gloaming over 1800m last spring and came up well short, beaten six lengths after having a good run. In two runs this prep he won over 1500m at Port Macquarie then beaten in an 1800m Benchmark 64 at Hawkesbury.

VERDICT: He’s not up to this level.

9 – MAJORCA SUNSET

Broke through last time out at start six after placing in three of his first five starts. Raced on speed at Warwick Farm last time out when winning over 1600m. The step up to 2000m is new territory but he’s bred to appreciate ground, and the stable are flying.

VERDICT: Will make his own luck and might just run a race.

10 – BERNEN WIN

Switched stables after his come from last win in the country. Then stepped up into a Midway over a mile and he closed off better than anything in the race. The rise to 2000m is new territory but to the eye he gives the impression he might run it out.

VERDICT: On the up and has place claims.

11 – AELIANA

She appeared to have her chance when she laboured late in the Randwick Guineas when asked to go before entering the straight. Her last 200m split was only better than the last two home. Drawn to get every chance but next week there’s a fillies Group 1 over 2000m so won’t be shocked to see her scratched from this.

VERDICT: Can’t see how she can beat a few of the boys so expecting them to wait another week.
