Star jockey Jamie Kah will need to seek another Melbourne Cup ride after the withdrawal of Point King.

Kah was booked to ride the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Point King after the imported stayer booked his Melbourne Cup place with a win in the Group 3 Archer Stakes at Flemington.

The Freedman stable notified stewards on Saturday morning that Point King would not be among Monday’s third acceptors for the Melbourne Cup.

Ladbrokes had rated Point King as a $15 chance and the stayer was owner Lloyd Williams’ best hope for an eighth Melbourne Cup win.

Kah said she was disappointed not to be riding Point King in the Melbourne Cup after riding the six-year-old in trackwork during the week.

She added she would assess her Melbourne Cup options with her racing manager Lachie Weekley in the coming days.

Kah’s ability to ride near the minimum would make her an appealing option for most trainers still looking for riders for their Melbourne Cup runners.
