Jockey Daniel Moor expects upset result in 2024 Caulfield Cup

A Caulfield Cup win would be the perfect way for jockey Daniel Moor to re-establish himself in the Melbourne riding ranks after another successful Singapore stint.

Winning a Caulfield Cup would be a good way for jockey Daniel Moor to get off “the bottom of the pile”.

Moor rode in Singapore in the last few months of racing in the city state before the Singapore Turf Club ceased operations after 181 years on October 5.

Moor has spent several stints riding in Singapore, which has provided opportunities for his fellow riders to fill any gaps his departure created.

Moor said he has faced the challenge of regaining his place in the tough Melbourne riding ranks a few times in the past.

“I’ve been doing it for the last three or four years and I’m well aware of what I have to do when I get back,” Moor said.

“You go straight to the bottom of the pile.

“Everyone’s working hard here and I’ve got to work that little bit harder than everyone else and I’m not afraid of work so I know what to do.”

Moor’s time in Singapore left him able to get down to ride the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Muramasa at 51kg in the Caulfield Cup.

Busuttin, Young and Muramasa’s ownership group, that includes Caulfield and Melbourne Cup-winning owners Ozzie Kheir and John O’Neill, gave Moor his first Group 1 win on Sierra Sue in the 2021 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

Moor has also won four races, including two at Group 3 level on Muramasa, which will help when he reunites with the son of Deep Impact in the Caulfield Cup.

“Having that winter in Singapore allows me to ride lighter because I haven’t got that winter guts on me,” Moor said.

“The owners are very good to me and the stable’s been very good to me and I know the horse so it has worked out well.”

Muramasa is a $23 chance in Caulfield Cup betting.

Moor said the 2024 Caulfield Cup was an open affair, which could possibly produce an upset result.

“I’m looking forward to it and the way the race is shaping up this year, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a double-figure priced winner of the race,” Moor said.

“He’s off a good mark and he’s got a good gate.

“I’m confident he’ll beat home more than he gets beaten.

“Should the stars align, he’s a top five (chance).”
