Within The Law’s casual demeanour masks a fierce determination that could drive her to Golden Slipper glory at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Trainer Bjorn Baker is adamant Within The Law is his best-ever chance to win the $5m two-year-old race.

“Within The Law is so laid-back, she’s very relaxed and she doesn’t do any more than is asked of her at trackwork,’’ Baker said.

“But on race day, she’s all business and has this great will to win. She is in good order and has had the perfect preparation.

“I’ve had a couple of Golden Slipper runners before but they finished ninth or 10th and I’m hoping it’s third time lucky with this filly.’’

Baker, who is enjoying his best-ever season as a trainer, admitted he covets a Golden Slipper more than just about any other race.

“The Golden Slipper means so much from a commercial point of view,’’ Baker said.

“If we could win the race, then it would have a lot of appeal to my stable and my business from the breeders and investors in the game.

“This is the race that separates Sydney from the rest. The Slipper is Sydney’s race.

“When I came here 14 years ago I dreamed of having a runner, let alone a winner.’’

Within The Law, raced by Darby Syndications, has won three of her four starts including the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes, and is rated a $12 chance in latest TAB Fixed Odds betting behind $5 equal favourites Tempted and Wodeton.

TAB’s Gerard Daffy said the likes of Within The Law and the only horse to beat her, Rivellino, have been well backed to win the Golden Slipper.

“Punters are skirting around both of the favourites a little at the moment,” TAB’s Gerard Daffy said.

“Because the race is so open, and opinions are so varied, even outsiders are attracting good support at an each-way price.

“Mahroona tightening from $26 into $9.50 is a huge move for a Group 1 race and there’s a watch on Rivellino with that much interest.

“It’s the most open Golden Slipper I can remember and I’m not sure it will be a surprise who wins because I think anything can, and the market is starting to reflect that.”

■ Racing NSW chief steward Steve Railton revealed all 16 Golden Slipper runners and the two emergencies were subject to a veterinary examination on Friday.

The only Slipper runner in any doubt is the Team Hawkes-trained West Of Swindon.

The talented colt was lame

late withdrawal from the Pago Pago Stakes last week due to an issue with its near fore foot.

Racing NSW veterinarians said after inspecting West Of Swindon on Slipper eve, the colt was “exhibiting some mile lameness in that foot.’’

Railton said West Of Swindon will be subject to a further veterinary examination early on Slipper morning to assess the colt’s suitability to contest the big race.
