SWIMMING: Concordia College could not have scripted winning their latest major sporting title any better.
Taking on the Darling Downs’ best swimmers, the college’s Turbo Jets squad secured a rate aggregate and percentage points double on their way to winning the QCIS Interschool Swimming Championships.
“This is testament to the work being put in by our swimmers in the training pool,” squad coach and reigning Darling Downs Swimming Coach of the Year Troy Chandler said.
“Swimming is one of those sports where the results only come if you are prepared to invest in the long hours of training you need to do to improve.
“These results are the result of a gradual build-up of our overall squad depth over the past 10 years at the school.
“There has been a lot of hard work involved, but it is so pleasing to see the results of that work pay off in the pool for our swimmers.”
Despite her relative inexperience on the competition stage Lisa Richards, 13, had a big impact in the pool.
Richards, who has been swimming competitively for just over a year, was among a handful of Jets swimmers who won their age divisions.
“Winning my division was pretty exciting,” Richards said.
“Helping the school win was the best part though – it was a real team effort.
“Everyone swam really well and supported each other.”
Chloe Denning was also glad to be part of the impressive Jets squad.
The talented triathlete enjoys the opportunity to train and compete alongside her school mates.
“My focus is mostly on triathlon but swimming is obviously a big part of that,” Denning said.
“I’m pretty happy with how I swam at the championships.
“I love competing at them because everyone supports each other and it’s a great atmosphere.
“It was great being able to help the school win as well.”
