President Joe Biden couldn’t resist a dig at golf champion Donald Trump

US presidential hopeful Donald Trump took to his own Truth Social to boast about his latest incredible golfing accomplishments.

Joe Biden congratulates Donald Trump on his ‘great’ golfing victories

US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has taken to his own Truth Social site to boast about his latest golfing accomplishments and there has been a predictable reaction.

Trump, 77, is known to regularly spruik his achievements in the sport, almost always occurring on one of the courses he owns and usually with little evidence to back them up.

On Sunday (Monday AEDT), Trump declared he had taken out both the club championship and senior club championship at his Trump International Golf Club in Florida.

In a post featuring a large amount of all-caps writing, Trump was excitedly looking forward to the awards night that evening and went on to thank unknown persons.

“The qualifying and match play was amazing,” he wrote in part. “A large and distinguished group will be there tonight. Very exciting, thank you!!!”

Among the people to comment on the boast was current US president and Trump’s rival for office in this year’s election Joe Biden, 81, who had a simple comment accompanying a screenshot of Trump’s post.

“Congratulations, Donald,” Biden wrote to his 38 million followers on X. “Quite the accomplishment.”

At last count, Biden’s post has had almost seven million views, 100,000 likes, 17,000 retweets and 10,000 comments, some of which are below.

“It’s awards night at my house, too! I’m being honored with BEST CAT MOM in the categories of poop scooping, feeding, and giving scritches! It’s truly an honor to be recognised.”

“I’m being given the golf trophy at my golf course today!” wrote another. “They even let me ride the little carts!”

“Mr President got jokes and he ain’t afraid to use them,” was another comment.

“I don’t think you’re allowed to assassinate your political opponent like that,” added another.

Another X user was keen to poke fun at Trump’s recent legal battles when they wrote: “It is too bad for Former President Donald Trump that his golf championship awards did not include a $464 million prize.”

It continues a common theme for Trump when it comes to golf and athletic prowess.

In January, Trump claimed to have won the senior championship at another of his courses, despite not competing in the same circumstances as everyone else in the competition.

Scheduled for a Saturday and Sunday competition, Trump was absent on the first day and used a score from a previous round earlier in the week to put him five shots clear heading into day two.

In September last year, he also claimed he weighed 215 pounds (97kg) and stood six-foot-three (190cm).

Those dimensions should put Trump’s physical appearance alongside the likes of Muhammad Ali in his boxing prime and NFL quarterbacks Tom Brady and Lamar Jackson.

Those figures surfaced in his self-reporting when Trump was booked at Fulton County Jail in Georgia on charges he conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Days later, he made fresh claims about his golfing ability.

There is very little footage of the former president actually out on one of his private courses, with the exception of an infamous video that emerged in July last year of Trump playing in Los Angeles.

He is seen badly shanking an attempted chip onto the green from about 30 metres away.

Trump previously posted on Truth Social he had also won the senior club championship at his own Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

It wasn’t just the claim of his victory that raised eyebrows, it was also his supposed score.

Trump stated he shot a round of 67 at the course, which has a par score of 72.

“I am pleased to report, for those that care, that I just won the Senior Club Championship (must be over 50 years old!) at Bedminster (Trump National Golf Club), shooting a round of 67,” Trump posted.

“Now, some people will think that sounds low, but there is no hanky/lanky. Many people watch, plus I am surrounded by Secret Service Agents.

“Not much you can do even if you wanted to, and I don’t. For some reason, I am just a good golfer/athlete – I have won many Club Championships, and it is always a great honour!”

A score of five-under on most championship-level golf courses, which Trump National is, would please seasoned professionals.

Trump then remarkably shared the contact details of the head golf professional from Bedminster, Mickey Gallagher.

After all that from the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential candidate, it was no surprise to see the quick reaction of many on social media.

The score plus the claims of being a “good golfer/athlete” piqued the interest of most, plus the fact these “victories” only ever occur at courses Trump happens to own.

“Has Trump ever won a golf tournament on a course he doesn’t own?” asked X user Rschooley.

Among the replies were “has he ever won a golf game without cheating” and has he ever won “where there were other golfers?”.
