Former champion Louis Oosthuizen remained atop the leaderboard of the British Open on Saturday — but Brooks Koepka was the real winner.
The South African’s scintillating second round of 65 saw him move to 11 under par at Royal St. George’s on Friday
Oosthuizen total of 129 through 36 holes is an Open Championship record low score.
He has a lead of two strokes ahead of American Colin Morikawa.
Koepka may be way back at five-under, but he will be satisfied he is six strokes clear of bitter rival Bryson DeChambeau, who just snuck inside the cut line at one-over.
DeChambeau has continued to make headlines at The Open after backtracking on his claim that his driver at “sucks”
He was forced to admit his frustration was “very unprofessional”.
He was labelled a brat by some golf commentators as a result.
Koepka has little time for big-hitting DeChambeau, who made his major breakthrough last year, and that disdain was clear in a leaked video from last month’s PGA Championship.
Recording a post-round TV interview, Koepka, who finished runner-up behind Phil Mickelson at Kiawah Island, was interrupted by DeChambeau walking behind them talking and had to stop the interview, cursing out his fellow US Open winner.
It was the continuation of a long-running feud between the pair that erupted in January 2019 when Koepka called out DeChambeau for slow play during the Dubai Desert Classic.
Their running feud has been the story in golf this year and it went to another level on Saturday morning with Koepka landing a perfect one-liner during an interview to again ruin his rival.
Golfing professional and Instagram star Paige Spiranac was among many to eat up Koepka’s ultra-salty pot-shot at DeChambeau following their second rounds at The Open.
Koepka’s sledge was so good it even prompted him to grin in the middle of the sentence.
“I drove the ball great,” he said.
“I love my driver. Everything’s going rally well. My pace was pretty solid.”

Spiranac has previously been critical of DeChambeau’s attitude and has repeatedly taken to social media to poke fun at his struggles this year.

DeChambeau has transformed his physique by adding 20 pounds to extend the length of his drives, but it hasn’t had the results he was hoping in 2021.
He’s admitted his driver tirade after the first round wasn’t good enough.
“The comment I made was very unprofessional,” DeChambeau wrote on Instagram.
“My frustration and emotions over the way I drove the ball today boiled over. I sucked today, not my equipment.”
“I deeply regret the words I used.”
