Jon Rahm hits ‘greatest hole in one ever’ at the Masters

Some guys have all the luck. Jon Rahm just hit a hole in one for the second day in a row – on his birthday.

Golf fans have been forced to wait longer than ever for the Masters this year but if the action is going to be this good, it’ll be worth it.

Spain’s Jon Rahm blew up the internet on Wednesday morning after hitting what’s been described as “the greatest hole in one ever”.

At the par-three 16th, during his practice round, Rahm skipped the ball across the water before curling it around the back of the green and in the cup.

“Two hole-in-one’s in two days – Happy Birthday to me!” he tweeted.

The magic moment came as it was revealed world number two Rahm would play with US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau in the first two rounds of the Masters.

Joining them Friday and Saturday (AEDT) at Augusta National will be South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open champion.

DeChambeau is the long-driving favourite after his overwhelming first major victory at Winged Foot in September while Rahm chases his first major crown 40 years after idol Seve Ballesteros won his first Masters.

Defending champion Tiger Woods, hoping to match Jack Nicklaus with a record sixth Masters win, will play alongside reigning British Open champion Shane Lowry and US Amateur winner Andy Ogletree.

Woods, still feeling the thrill of last year’s Masters victory to complete an epic comeback, says he can contend again this week thanks to his knowledge of Augusta National.

Former world number one Woods, a 15-time major champion who turns 45 next month, seeks a sixth green jacket and a record 83rd US PGA victory to break the mark he shares with Sam Snead.

“Do I expect to contend? Yes I do,” Woods said. “It can be done. Having an understanding where to miss it and how to hit the shots around here, it helps.

“It gets a little more difficult as I’ve gotten older and I don’t quite hit it as far.

“You see past champions … able to contend so late in their careers and hopefully I’ll be able to be one of those guys.”
