David Micheluzzi produces barnstorming finish to tie for second at the BMW International Open

Australian golfer David Micheluzzi has overcome back and neck concerns to continue his form resurgence in Europe.
The 27-year-old Victorian shot a final-round 68 to finish equal second at the BMW International Open in Germany with an overall total of 16-under, two strokes behind winner Ewen Ferguson.
Micheluzzi finished the event in style, recording final-round birdies on the 16th and 17th holes before snaring an eagle – which included “the best three-wood I’ve ever hit in my life” – on the par-five 18th at the Golfclub München Eichenried.
His runner-up finish came only a couple of weeks after a disastrous display at the KLM Open in the Netherlands, where he shots rounds of 81 and 76 to miss the cut.
However, things improved a week later at the Italian Open, where Micheluzzi finished in a tie for 10th at seven-under, three strokes behind winner Marcel Siem.
“Two week ago in Amsterdam I came third last, so to come here and shoot 16-under for the week, I’m stoked,” the 2022-23 Australasian PGA order of merit winner said.
“We just got back to what I do best and that’s shaping the golf ball … and just got that playing feeling back.”
Micheluzzi feared he wouldn’t be able to play in the final round in Germany after “tweaking” his back and neck trying to open a door just hours before he was due to tee off.
“I was very concerned of not playing, but the physios did a great job, got it moving and the adrenaline just kicked in. I can’t feel it right now,” he said.
Despite Micheluzzi’s impressive effort, it wasn’t enough to secure him a berth this week’s Scottish Open, which is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour.
He is set to instead travel to Kentucky in the United States to compete in the ISCO Championship, which is also co-sanctioned by both tours.
“I’m just happy that it’s thereabouts,” Micheluzzi said of his form.
